Welcome to the plethora of advice that is parenting.
Well, despite all of the varying voices, there are some pretty easy and safe take aways from all that's being said here.
I like being safe. Your kid only gets to be born once (literally, I'm disregarding the spiritual conotations), and it's preferible for them to be healthy.
So much info. Lots of good advice and a continuation of the multitude of differing opinions that brought me here after my research. No matter where I go for info there is not a single general consensus of information to follow.

My real point was that this is a *single* topic. Ask 500 people any question about raising a kid (when can I give her solid foods? is sleeping on her side ok? how long should I let her cry? do they sleep in my room or in their room? what color should the baby's room be? cloth diapers or disposable?) and you will get 500 different answers - and every one of those people will be adamant their way is the right way, and oh look here's 10 studies that coincide with their opinion.
My take: do what you think makes sense, as long as your doc has no problems with it.
