I recently returned from a trip with a lot of recorded video on DVD. I downloaded the latest release of Handbrake with the intention of copying the files to my computer incase I lost the video I took while on my trip, but there are no options for .avi files, or half of the playback options I remember there being last time i used Handbrake. I ripped the files to .mkv and .mp4, and I still can't view either. I dont know if there is a problem with the region of the DVD (my video was copied onto DVDs while in Japan), but Handbrake doesn't seem to do the job.
Any suggestions?

What OS? Did you just want to make ISOs of the DVDs for backup or did you actually want to convert to another format (which will cause a loss in quality)?
