Saudi cleric asks women to breast feed adult colleagues

Apparently, Saudi clerics have announced a 'Fatwa' asking women to give breast milk to adult colleagues so that they can mix with them legally. They are debating whether the woman should pump the mile out and offer it in a glass, or allow the colleague to suckle directly...        

Yeah, I'm still collecting my brain fragments off the floor too.

"The whole issue just shows how clueless men are," blogger Eman Al Nafjan wrote on her website. "All this back and forth between sheiks and not one bothers to ask a woman if it's logical, let alone possible to breastfeed a grown man five fulfilling breast milk meals.

I think this might be seen as a way to sort of homogenize radical Wahhabism with a modern economy.  I mean, obviously this sort of thing will never catch on or propagate, but I see it as progress in a country where women aren't allowed to drive.  They're trying to rationalize shit.  Baby steps.

Under shariah as interpreted in Saudi Arabia, women must never be outside the home without being accompanied by a male family member (and must never be alone anywhere with unrelated males).  This includes adopted family, and any male that has nursed on an otherwise unrelated woman is considered to be the adopted son of that woman (doesn't matter if he's older than she is, as long as he received *all* of his nutrition that way he's her son according to the Prophet Muhammed, Peace Be Upon Him).

This is what happens when you *literally* interpret a law code written by and for illiterate goat herders and make it the *entire* legal code of your society.  Imagine driving under "rules of the road" intended for camel caravans in the desert.

Allow me to point out that this is a barking mad society in which all female relatives are encouraged to suckle an infant boy so that they can babysit in the future without the need for a mask. They're obviously well aware of where the line is and are keen not to stray too far from our conventions. Good point.
