I searched and found no previous topic.
Yes, this has many horror movie cliches, but fans generally like that. This movie stars the excellent Mr Oliphant and he delivers a great performance. Good ending and plenty of "oh shit" moments.
A solid 100 minutes of entertainment.

Got maybe about 2/3'rds of the way through this before I got tired and went to bed one night. Thought it was pretty decent, but kind of slow as well. Was kind of getting bored with it by the time I left off, which is why I haven't bothered to try finishing it again (maybe I just left off before the amazing action happens at the end)?
Also, one thing that bugged me. Or maybe I just didn't understand it (I was getting pretty tired):

I was also a fan of the first hour of this. Excellent creepy and solid character moments without a heavy dependence on jump scares. Things get worse and worse and all hope is lost and then... the movie just kind of keeps limping along. When you put the screws in, they have to tighten as the film continues. You can rotate them back a little bit to let the audience breathe, but when they reengage they need to go deeper. Instead this film went from weird to eerie to horrible to frightening to desperate to... desperate. To more desperate. To a bit more horrible. To some creepy. Maybe a bit more creepy. Then a little more horrible.
"Oh fuck, is this ever going to end?" should be asked from the edge of my seat, not while I'm checking my watch.
First hour is fantastic thought. Slow burn done right.

Are we talkiing original or remake?
EDIT: Never mind - don't know how I missed mention of Oliphant in first post.
EDIT 2: I preferred this to the original FWIW. There are some good scenes in the first one but it generally suffers from Romero overdoing the analogies and hand-wringing for my money. The remake wasn't fantastic but it was tighter overall. I enjoyed it.

More like Saw/hostile/gore porn, or more traditional horror?
EDIT: Answered my own question, more inline with traditional Zombie flicks.

I enjoyed this movie very mush. It was definitely a Romero, but also had shades of Hitchcock.
