Hammer Frenzy, I know you are buying this and playing it ASAP. Please give me a review before I blow $60 on it  awesome, for real

Anyone else is free to offer their opinions as well. I will have to buy it just so I can be Mike Tyson. Or beat the shit out of him, since I owe him an asskicking from the Nintendo days.

I'm just glad they got rid of the damn minigames in the fights, unless I'm just blind.

Also I continue  to play these games the same way... sticking and moving, and concentrating on  getting swelling and waiting  for blind spots to set up counters.

I haven't done any research on it yet- was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Did they expand the career mode at all? It was very barebones in FN3. Even UFC:Unwhatever had more to do, and that got old in a hurry too.

It sounded like it, I'll fire up the demo and take a look again at lunch.

I enjoyed the demo.  Very similar to fnr3 but variation in the punches are more accessible.  It really killed the immersion when you pulled a guy's hand down and he sat like a dummy for you to counter.

I am a little peeved that there is no first person view, that was hilariously funny.  But all in all i like the extra mechanics, the corner game leaves you to plan the fight multiple rounds ahead and shows you how your character is faring.  In FNR3 i found there was a lot of guesswork in terms of how tired your guy was, how much power he had left.

Speaking as a longtime boxing nut who found the previous Fight Nights to be interesting but more or less fatally flawed, I give this game an unmitigated thumbs up. It's what I wanted the other games to be.

Huge fan of this game.  The Online World Championship mode is where it's at.  You get three slots for boxers.  Lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight.  It lumps all weight classes into these three.  They MUST be custom made boxers.  It levels the stats of all fighters within each of the three weight classes.  Persistant stats and records.  Rankings.  Titles to win and hold.  Boxing excellence.  My middleweight is 2-0 with 1 KO and my heavyweight is 2-1 with 2 KOs.

That and single player career mode has been very much expanded.

Do you know anything about how they supposedly equalize the stats? Like does it matter that I made Gonzalez a welter instead of a middle, since he's going to end up lumped in with middles?

All equal.  Only thing that matters is height and reach.  Good thing Ben Richards is 6'8".  I was fighting someone with him that had to be really a light heavy and was like 5'11".  Beat his fucking ass.  Yeah it's gamey but you should make a fighter specifically for online championship mode.  If you really care that much about your record... and I do.

EDIT:  I just played a few more fights on online championship mode.  God I love this shit.  Juan Gon is now 4-0 with 2 KOs.  I KO'd the SHIT out of some bum in the first round.  The second fight was awesome.  It was some 0-2 dude who I thought would be meat.  Somehow he managed to not only survive the usual barrages I throw that result in early KOs, but mostly completely avoid them.  He started really beating my ass.  About three or four rounds in I had to completely change my strategy and tactics.  He would constantly be moving backward to avoid the punishment so eventually I'd stand still, he'd come to me, I'd hit him with 4 jabs, he'd get one hook connect.  I did that for 7 rounds and got the win by decision.  He even knocked me down in the 6th round and I still got the decision.  I ended up having more than 100 punches land than him.

Then I took Ben Richards out for a heavyweight fight.  I murdered the bastard so quick, within the fist minute of the fight, that he quit and we lost connection before he actually hit the canvas on the replay.  I get the win on my record, but no recorded KO.  :(  At least I still get the win.

EDIT AGAIN:  This is the sweetest online console gaming ever.  I daresay sweetest online sports game of all time.

At least I don't have to fret over stats next time. Heh.

I wish you could have made it over for the HBO fight tonight. The game has only been out a day or two, and we've already got our first case of a young up-and-comer, included in the game mostly based on potential, getting his ass kicked. Victor Ortiz was in this ridiculous slugfest with this guy from Argentina with both guys going down, like 4 knockdowns in the first 2 rounds, only the Argentine guy could take it better and knocked him out in 6.

Bonus authenticity points for JG, the fight was sponsored by Tecate.  awesome, for real

I have to admit, it's fun being Juan Gonzales with Mexican flag shorts and robe and The Casa Bonita from Southpark ring entrance music and authentic Mexican beer endorsements and absolutely MURDERING JBLUNTKILLA with gangsta rap and shit playing.

I won't turd up the forum by keeping this thread alive anymore.   But my middleweight is 7-0 with 4 KO's in the online world championship.  I don't know why more people aren't talking about this.  It's fuckin' awesome.

The training system in Legacy mode ruins the mode which is why I bought the game.  I don't have any interest playing online.

They removed the simple little training minigames with extremely difficult ones meaning your stats are 1/2 - 1/3 your opponents half way through Legacy mode.  This results in getting knocked out in 2 punches even after out boxing your opponent for the first 3/4 of the round.  Grrr... totally ruins the game for me.

I may have bought this is if I didn't already get UFC 2009 even though I'm not much of a boxing fan.  I don't need more than one realistic fighter.

The training minigames are a LOT more difficult but once you get used to it you can achieve "champion" quite easily.  The maise bag fucked me up bigtime for a while.  I didn't know you can dodge more than once per swing of the bag.

Yeah, that's one thing I really wish they would just do away with completely, the training games.

That really doesn't look bad aside from the actual graphics.  The gameplay looks really good for the time it was released.

I very nearly threw this game out the fucking window yesterday. Knocked a guy down 4 times in the first round, again in the second, and then he hits me with a counterpunch and knocks me out. WTF.

I fucking suck at this game apparently. I am terrified to go online and get raped. Probably a good way to learn how the hell to play though. And the minigames can suck my ass.

Sorry I'm late to the party fellas. (family/boxing/art/work own my ass) I got the game on release and I am enjoying it quite a bit. There are a few things I am not digging, but all in all, I am happy with the result. They boxing in it is much funner, albeit a little "spammy" for my tastes. Then again, I was watching some fight tape last night and the 1983 Pryor vs Arguello fight looked like a match in fight night rd 4 hahah. Some people man, have an amazing ability to roll with punches or flat out take them and keep moving forward. After boxing for the past y and a half, I am surprised at just how much hits that look like you landed or feel like they landed clean, turn out to be glancing shots or happen to have nothing behind them, which brings me to my first point...

The hitting in this game game feels much better. People can take a lot of "hits" but most of those end up being glancing blows or hits that are connecting from angles that are not ideal for solid, effective strikes. I like that. I am also really happy with the counter punching system. It feels like I can actually counter punch and stand a chance now, which is really neat. I am glad that the window for counter attacking is variable based on angles and stamina etc. very sexy. I have heard a lot of people complaining about the foot work, and that there is none in the game, to which I call shinanigans. I apply ample pressure via combinations and foot work. Unfortunately your ability to move around effectively is based on your stats and you have to raise foot work related stats in order to get the most out of the angles you can create. I HAVE however tested this with various characters in matches with actual people and in various sparring scenarios. I was able to effectively sidestep incoming attacks and even work signature combination attacks such as Hattons' Jab -> Cross -> Right side step -> Left Body Hook -> Cross . This all worked and I was indeed creating angles in which the opponent had to return to a neutral state then auto focus on my character who was already at a frame advantage. So yeah the boxing is fun in the game, which was the most important aspect for me.

The legacy mode on the other hand, although more accurate and in depth, still seems a little hampered by the mini games. I for one actually enjoy the mini games because they are directly related to the actual game play. By that I mean, practicing the combos on the heavy bag, slipping the maize bag, applying pressure to the sliding heavy bag, sparring, all that stuff, is stuff that actually makes you better at the game. I like that a lot, I just wish I was not limited to when I could do the training and punished so much for auto-training. The stats of my character should not be dictated with how much training I physically did, but more with how effectively I managed my time between fights. The training mini-games should be more for my personal growth and understanding of the games fighting mechanics.

Anyway, I like this game, I hope to play with some of you at some point. Add me to your XBOX 360 friends list so we can play!

I uploaded a couple of Lou Gossett Jr. pics to easportsworld.com and created Honey Roy Palmer. I also fiddled with the sliders so I can actually do some damage to fighters. MUCH better. He is 6-0 with 6 KOs, but has been knocked down once, so there is still some real danger. I have all the big name licensed heavyweights (Ali, Tyson, Frazier, Foreman, Lewis, Toney, etc) in the top 10, so it should get really interesting when I get up to that point.

I tried to make a Jesus Quintana fighter too but it kept erroring out when creating the head. Will try some different pics and see if that makes any difference. The ability to share created fighters is pretty awesome- I downloaded a great Brad Pitt from Snatch.
