Yea, IF you want to pay $15/month. Which I don't.

There is one great feature that I love about newsgroups though.
Say I go out to the bar, and theres some bluegrass band there and I have a good time...
Now I go home and decide I want some bluegrass. With torrents I'm kind of at a loss. I don't know what to get... where to get it, what bands are good.

With newsgroups I can go to alt.bin.music.bluegrass or whatever and just download the first 5 albums I see. In general, people on usenet don't upload stuff that they don't like. So you end up with a bunch of stuff that's generally pretty good. Rather than hunting all over for whats new and great in a category, you can just go to that category and select all.

Necro for some help, since this thread seems to have turned into the newsgroups discussion thread.

I've started using newsgroups, but need a little help on how to search for files.  I've been using that alt.binz program that was mentioned earlier, and its pretty good.  However, I can't figure out how to make the damn search functions work.   Always get zero returns for any of them.  I've found websites that let you search for NZB's though, and have just been downloading those from there, and then opening them in alt.binz, which works good.  However, I'm getting some really mixed results with some of the random nzb search sites I've found, and know there has to be a better way.

So basically:
1.)  Does anybody know how to search groups using alt.binz, or knows another good reader for that.
2.)  What are some recommended sites for searching and downloading nzb files?

Use websites for searching because it's much easier. Newzleech and binsearch are the top two.

I've been doing the same as you, and searching on websites (newzleech) then opening in alt.binz. I believe the free version of alt.binz has broken searching - it used to work, but got broken by changes which were never updated. IIRC you can pay a 'donation' for an updated version of alt.binz with working search, but I've not done this myself, so ymmv.

Or I guess I could just search on newzleech for a copy of the "not broken" version of alt.binz, and download it through my broken alt.binz  awesome, for real

Thanks for the help everybody, sounds like what I've been doing is the norm (though newzleech works a ton better than what I was trying to use before).  Guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't 'doing it all wrong'.

If you're getting your downloads, how can you be going wrong? why so serious?
