 We do not need another year like 2008. Poor bastard was only 56! For those with poor musical taste, Powell was the piano player for Skynyrd. One of two who survived the plane crash and one of rock's best keyboardists. Glad we got to see him a couple years ago, his playing is so phenomenal. This sucks. Going to listen to a lot of Skynyrd today.

Powell: Talented but a bit overindulgent for my tastes. I own some Skynyrd, but tended to listen for the guitar work. He is a definite loss to the music world. Lux was a pioneer to be certain. If he's who I think he is, a part of the early CBGB crowd? Is his wife still alive? |

I don't know who either of these guys are. Lux Interior sounds like a name from a B-grade scifi movie to me. |

Well, I didn't say anything about Billy Powell because I have never been a fan of his band. Sorry. I am, however, sad about Lux Interior. I like how Riggs came kind of close to what he was about!

I gave more of a fuck that John Martyn died the day after Powell, but I didn't expect anybody on f13 to even know who he was. Likewise I posted about Lux elsewhere on the net yesterday too, again not expecting many here to care. There will be a 20 page thread here if some vapid little princess who stars in a teen show dies though. Just the way it is.

Well, I didn't say anything about Billy Powell because I have never been a fan of his band. Same here. Everyone at school used to go crazy whenever Skynyrd came on the radio, but I personally don't really care for them much at all. The Cramps, eh... I don't hate or dislike them, but there is only so much minimalist artistry I can listen to, and the Cramps haven't made the list yet. Not that they won't one day, but right now I am just not that much of a fan honestly (broke as a joke right now too, so music\CD purchases and exploration has been curbed until further notice). Sad that he died (at 60 too, not old) but I'm not going to lie and pretend I even knew he was still alive beyond having read a thing or two a few years back. |

I have a LOT of music from the early 70's and I've barely heard of the guy. Maybe now is my chance to become familiar. |

Maybe now is my chance to become familiar.
With the pound weak against the dollar and many of his best albums selling for five quid or less on Amazon UK, it is a very good time. He's fairly well known in certain circles in the US - certainly you find a lot of people who follow folk, blues and jazz know him over here. He's less known among the rock crowd outside Britain. |
