Blog software?

Someone at work asked me to look into setting up a blog for the company.  For obvious reasons free blogs are out of the question. Before I start write/purchase something, what is available for free out there? Thank you for any help.

Wordpress is probably what you want, but there are tons.  WP has an easy install (binaries, plus MSQL).

Or, if you're like me, I'd use something that's a lot cleaner and less of a mess when something breaks:

Mephisto.

In fact, I like it so much, I should start calling Wordpress Wordmess. That said, Wordpress has many many many more plugins that on the whole make getting any job done a lot easier. As such, I'd still recommend Wordpress for a professional environment.

Wordpress is decent if you don't feel like deviating too much from the templates.

If people at work want to use it then it needs to be as easy as possible to post and format.  I'd probably go for either of the biggies then, Wordpress or MovableType.

Don't listen to schild , he's not the one responsible for installing the Mephisto software and maintaining it.

You need to determine what platform and programming language you are willing to support and also decide what features you need the blogging software to support. E.g. is this for a Windows Web server or Linux/Unix/Mac OS X? PHP? Java? .NET? Multi-user or single-user? Should "creative types" be able to edit the templates? And so on.

After you decide all that we might be able to help you narrow down your choices.

Or you could just go with WordPress.

Thanks! I think I will take Trippy's advise and not liste to Schild and play with Wordpress first.
