So I"m hoping someone here has an idea on how to fix this.
I just bought a 46" Samsung LCD TV. One of my main uses for it is to game and watch videos from my laptop on it, since my laptop has HDMI out. Unfortunately, I have encountered one issue with this that I am not sure how to resolve. Pretty much I am experiencing a lot of tearing when doing stuff from my laptop. The tearing isn't real noticable while gaming due to vsync options in game or in the nvidia control panel, however I cannot find any way to reduce the tearing for videos (both through VLC or flash based).
I have tried setting the desktop resolution to 1080p, 720p, and my laptop's native 1280x900. I have also tried it with the refresh rate set at both 60Hz and 59Hz (my tv is a 60Hz tv). None of these tweaks have fixed it. The Nvidia control panel only allows 3d applications to force vsync on so I can't use that route. I honestly am at a loss of what to try now.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

No, return the Samsung and get a Sony.

Geforce 8600M GT (512 vram), 2.1Ghz core 2 duo, 3gb ram, vista 32bit. The two nvidia drivers I tried with were 175.63 and 177.40, both cause it to happen. The laptop itself is an Acer aspire 5920G.

Poke around a bit and see if it has been asked before and ask it in the right forum instead of spamming it around. Seems like those are two things that get people grumpy over there.

I've had piss poor luck with Nvidia cards on my media PC. They always require screwing around with the settings, and I still couldn't get decent results. I would say to give ATI a try since their cards worked like a charm for me, but since you're on a laptop your options are a tad bit limited.

Find your "just scan" setting in your samsung's menu, if you read your damn manual it will tell you what to do when using it as a computer monitor.
