I currently have SyncMaster 2253bw Samsung monitor that I love... but I am looking to upgrade to something bigger. I want something specifically for gaming, so 3ms or faster response time is key. Ideally it should be 24' or larger. I was considering Gateway FHD2400 but reliability reports made me reconsider.  Please suggest good alternative.

If all you care about is response times (i.e you don't care about color, viewing angles, etc.) then get a TN panel. Most 24" are overdriven S-MVA or S-PVA designs (which cause input lag) so you'll have to dig around to figure out which are TN. The Gateway FHD2400 is a TN panel but like you said the quality is suspect. If you go to 28" those are all TN panels. Unfortunately at that size and typical desktop viewing distances you won't be able to move your eyeballs without having the colors shift.

Gateway FHD2400.

Buy it at a retail store if reliability issues are a problem. I finally got the brightness and shit figured out a bit after Rattran left and omg best purchase ever.

Also, Hannspree has a 28" model out for around $500 also.

I second the FHD2400.  Love, love, love mine.  Only grief I have it with is it's too easy to move on it's pivot points when switching inputs via the 'touch free' buttons.

I haven't had any problems with mine.  What was the deal with yours, Schild?

I suck at color balance and lighting because I like my whites superwhite and bright as fuck so blacks get totally crushed, but it's all fixed now.

I've got 2 m-pva 24" panels, the input lag on the LG is not noticible, and no ghosting. The Soyo has a bit of input lag, but I don't use it for gaming, so it's just fine. The viewing angles and colors are quite nice.
I'd recommend against the Soyo, no hdcp and lots of complaints about the panels on the intarweb. Seems if you get a good one you're golden, otherwise it's shit. Mine's done a year of heavy use just fine.

I looked at the Gateways before I got the LG, good set of inputs, decent color, but terrible tearing issues that Schild has figured out how to fix. A solid big monitor if you're planning on watching tv and doing other non-computer things with it.

Still, the 28" Hannspress tn panel is occasionally tempting. It's so big!

Curious as to what settings you used.  Did you make any adjustments with nTune or just straight from the monitor's menu?  I never loaded up Gateways drivers/software.

Monitor menu. I just fucked around with it til I could see the alternating black/grey on f13 posts. It used to all be black.

Being way too red was never a problem I had. That's weird. Which profile is it set to? Also, there are, of course, color options.

the dell 24" really shines in this area.  The blacks remain black even with the brightness cranked and the 1st time i hooked mine up my 1st thought was damn that is fucking bright.  Currently I have the brightness set at 60%, anything more than that would leave me reaching for the sun glasses.  Actually this is probably the 1st monitor I have ever owned where I set the brightness below 90.

I haven't noticed any ghosting on it but I'm not exactly anal enough to go looking for this type of defect if it didn't jump right out at me to begin with.

The monitor was crushing blacks simply by how it was set up, not by design.
It was also blasting whites, so it's not a racial thing.

Yes, the Dell 24" is sweet…

Only mode it looks remotely good is "cool" anything else is rapes my eyeballs with color explosion, especially TOO RED and TOO WHITE. Like looking into sunset.

My new monitor managed to somehow fry my old video card - 7900 GTS X2... so I got replacement, 9800GTX. Well here is what shocked me most - old card got me 8394 3D mark, new card got me 9000ish. WTF, where is progress?

What's the rest of your system specs? Might be a bottleneck somewhere else.

Of course, the only help I can provide is in asking that question  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

There is absolutely no reason to buy that sort of cable.

Except for monitors and televisions with no dvi input. But yeah, just a different pin out effectively
