I don't know if Sun are the first systems company to architect solutions aimed specifically at the MMOG provisioning market, but certainly another entrant doesn't hurt.

Wasn't IBM's Butterfly.net solution supposed to be something similar? Not exactly MMOG specific, but the same kind of networked server solution idea that also had applications in MMOG's and gaming.
