So I've finally gotten myself an Xbox... mostly to use as a media center, but I figure theres probably a game or two out there that might be worth getting.

I mostly like adventure/rpg type games, with some action games.  I'm really awful at controlling a camera on the 1st and 3rd person games on the xbox (though I never had a problem on the PS2 games that offered it) and prefer not to.  Add to that generally sucking at FPSes, and Halo is NOT on my list.

Heres my "library" of PS2 and PS1 titles to give an idea of what I'm likely to enjoy:

Castlevania:
  Curse of Darkness
  Lament of Innocence
  Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, X, X-2, and 12
Katamari Damacy
God of War
Spy Hunter
Xenogears
Xenosaga
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Gran Tourismo 3 & 4

Yeah, short list.

I'd say just save your money for all the upcoming PS2 games that would seem to fit your tastes:

Rogue Galaxy
AR Tonelico: Melody of Elemia (maybe, haven't heard much about it)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI
Lumines Plus
God of War 2
Shining Force EXA
Burnout Dominator
Dawn of Mana

I'll have some thoughts on Ar Tonelico before release.

Just preordered Romance XI tonight. Stoked.

Burnout is made by EA.

Dawn of Mana is probably going to blow goats.

Also, Persona 3. Game of the Year 07.

I don't plan on picking up Dawn of Mana myself as I've never been much into the Mana series anyway (Legend of Mana though was one of my favorite Square games of the PS1 era for some inexplicable reason).  It could still be at least average though, for those who find themselves running low on JRPGs right now.

Yes Burnout is made by EA.  I still love the series though.  This PS2 exclusive one though lacks crash mode opting to focus just on the racing, so I personally won't be picking it up for that reason.

I will be picking up Romance XI, as I have been buying this series of and on since the first game on the NES.  Now if only we could play this series online (presumably in weekly sessions with savable progress given the length of one game, making it almost like one of those old "play by mail" games).

The first SRPG of any kind that I know of that's multiplayer is for the Xbox 360, from !dea Factory, called Absolute Burning Infinity. It seems to have a Romancy capture the world online play with square based tactics for battles. It'll probably get released here by NISA. If I can get them drunk enough to do such a thing.

While you're at it, get them to change the name to something that doesn't sound quite so much like an STD symptom.

ABSOLUTE BURNING INFINITY.

I can't wait to buy a game named that.

Also, Soul Cradle should be out this year.

And a little birdie mentioned Grim Grimoire localization.

You might already have them on the PC, but if not, the Bioware games (Knights of the Old Republic, and Jade Empire) might be worth a look.  The Marvel games (X-Men Legends and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance) are kind of fun, in a Diablo kind of way.  I really got a kick out of Fable, too, but you'll probably want to rent it first, since it's real short.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Ninja Gaiden (or did they?).

Pick up Ninja Gaiden (or Ninja Gaiden Black).

Otogi 1 and 2

Halo 1 and 2 (may as well)

And ummm......Basically, that's it.

If you need a replacement (albeit an inferior one) for GT3 or 4, the Sega GT Online is decent. It's not Gran Turismo, but what is?

Crimson Skies is good, as is Mechassault 1 and 2. I'll second or third the Bioware and Fable recommendations.

I'd take Forza over anything else as a GT replacement (among PS2 and XBox titles, that is).

But hell, at this point, the 360 Forza 2 will be the best thing around as well. Damn Sony.

[EDIT]

The Mech Assault games aren't so bad either. And Top Spin.

But all in all, there isn't much on the XB worth getting if you already have a PS2 (or PC).

[EDIT] Damn forgot about Panzer Dragoon too.

I liked Ninja Gaiden black, Panzer Dragoon Orta, KoTOR, SSX3, and the burnout series.  That's pretty much it for gaming on the xbox.

I wouldn't say I need a replacement for any of the PS2 games I already have, since I'm not getting rid of the PS2, and I definitely plan to continue buying good PS2 games that are coming.

Spy Hunter (PS2) is a retelling/revisioning of the classic midway arcade title, officially licensed.  They got a talented development team together, gave them some money and let them have at, and the result was good.  (Then they made a sequel, and it blew)

Basically took the 'you drive on a sometimes-branching, linear course in your super-spy-mobile and blow the shit out of various badguys' dropped it into a 3d world with passable arcade driving physics (not Auto-assult level), pasted on some mission objectives to accomplish on each map, and filled in the cracks with enough backstory to justify the maps and objectives.

I think it was released for the PS2 in 2000 or so.
