This news is taken from http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/noje/story/0,2789,783641,00.html, which is a swedish newspaper. The credibility of aftonbladet can be considered fairly high since it's one of the largest, if not the largest, swedish newspaper. Translated the article says that eurogamer published news that God of war 2 is to apear on playstation 2. What was also revealed is that Killzone: Liberation for PSP is going to have downloadable maps. The news was according to the article retrived by eurogamers from secret sony documents. Shortly after eurogamer was faced with legal pressure from sony entertainment europe which forced them to take the news down.

Here's the more informative Gamespot version that Aftonbladet probably lifted their news from: God of War 2 due Q1 2007; PSP Killzone geting co-op?
Source: Two articles on Eurogamer.net, which have since been removed.
The official story: "I can say there is no official announcement regarding God of War 2 and any news pertaining to this property is purely rumor and speculation."--Sony Computer Entertainment American spokesperson.
What we heard: Since it was released in March 2005, God of War has taken home a trireme-ful of awards and gamers' dollars. So it wasn't so much a question of if the ancient Greece-set adventure would get a sequel, but when--and for what platform. While the original God of War was released for the PlayStation 2, many industry watchers presumed that its followup would be a must-have exclusive for the PlayStation 3. There has also been much speculation about a possible PSP port of the original game, which would help boost the portable's lackluster action-game library.
So when UK-based Eurogamer posted an article this morning saying "God of War 2 is being prepared for release on PlayStation 2 in the USA next February," those hoping for a next-gen Kratos were disappointed. Citing "leaked Sony marketing documentation," the site said the single-player game would have "players defeat Icarus and claim his wings...gain the ability to ride Pegasus, discover the Amulet of Fate and Golden Fleece to earn special powers, and wield weapons including...Medusa's Head." The documentation also allegedly made mention of God of War's "potential" to be extended to the PSP and PS3 platforms.
Eurogamer cited the same leaked Sony documents for a second article regarding the gameplay features of Killzone: Liberation. The third-person PSP spin-off of the first-person PS2 shooter will allegedly feature "challenge modes, co-operative play, and multiplayer options through both ad hoc and infrastructure modes." The documentation also implied that Liberation would have downloadable mission packs, as well as some sort of game-sharing functionality, allowing multiple PSP owners to play using just one copy of the game.
Unfortunately, what looked like a pretty good scoop for Eurogamer has apparently turned into a nasty bit of litigiousness. Within hours of going live, both the God of War 2 and PSP Killzone stories had been replaced by blank pages bearing the following ominous message: "The information that previously appeared here has been removed under the threat of legal action from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe."
Bogus or not bogus?: Both sound perfectly plausible--and legally actionable under UK law, apparently.

Then you'd be wrong. It will be - at least - a trilogy. And probably a side project. Have you PLAYED God of War? The ending practically wrote the sequel on it's own.

Alas no God of War 2 in February 2007, Sony had denied it.If you read the article they say Sony denies the "February 2006" date of God of War 2, but I'm sure they are referring to the 2007 release.

I remember reading that Shadow of the Colossus was getting remade for the PS3. It would NOT SHOCK ME if God of War was also. Within reason, they're two of the biggest franchises to come out of SCE if they play their cards right. As much as I don't want them to become "franchises" with sequels and whatnot, I really want me some more of that sweet sweet epic action.

Were that to happen and the graphics were sufficiently upgraded, I might lift my moratorium on buying a PS3 and an HDTV. Those games were great-looking on the PS2 hooked-up to my crappy little analogue. I'd love to see them in an enhanced format.

So your bet, Schild, is on a GoW remake rather than a new game? Interesting and I think it might be possible, if not likely. If you are correct, I'd bet it would be a Director's Cut sort of thing. I watched the extras and I think Jaffe's (?) team could enhance it with some content, based on his passion for the game.
PS3 should be on shelves by October, right?

I'm going with thanksgiving on that one. I gotta be honest, at this point, after reading up about blue ray and being able to just wildly stab in the dark about the RSX failure rates, I might not get a PS3 at launch unless it has some kickass RPG with it. Or a remade ICO/SoTC.

If we are putting money on the PS3 date, the earliest I would go is Nov 26, 2006. I'd be more apt to put a little on "2nd week of Dec" and a lot on "Q1 07". This is pure speculation influenced by Blu-Ray talk, but the Gamasutra gag makes me think they should have it on shelves before winter solstice, maybe by Christmas Junior in October. If talk of delaying the PS3 until 2007 was rampant, more people would buy a Rev in Dec, I think.

It's funny. My entire basis for Sony's delay, despite being able to reason it out technically, is that they suck at getting things out the door. Always have, always will.
People will buy a Rev because it's cheap and will launch with Twilight Princess. Not because the PS3 will or won't be out. I really don't think the crossover will be that huge. Just to play one or two games people can rationalize the cost. Microsoft could make off like bandits this year if they pump out a couple Mistwalker titles this fall, Crackdown for the mouth breathing crowd huge installed GTA fanbase, and a couple solid actual next-gen sports games. By Christmas we should be into the second or third wave of solid 360 titles. There's no reason they can't pull within fighting distance of the PS3 by January 07 should they play their cards even 30% right - Sony just seems to be flying blind right now.

If God of War 2 ends up being a PS3 launch title I'll probably be stuck in a tent outside Target for a week or so.

I totally agree with your assessment of where Sony' head is, but they might be concerned about the Rev anyway regardless of reality. Marketeers will note that another console released in 06 will be more likely to be purchased first, leaving regular people telling their kids "I jest got ya a new vidya game machine, now go put the tractor in the barn afore I whup ya." I just don't think that your and my demographic figures that heavily into Sony's marketing plans, given their focus as a company plus the new grab for mass-market appeal. We will find out soon enough. If God of War 2 ends up being a PS3 launch title I'll probably be stuck in a tent outside Target for a week or so.
It will be God of War: Director's Cut, so be sure to pack some sedatives and/or razor blades.

Nintendo is too strict on their game licensing. Microsoft really has no clue what their doing. Never will probably. Sony on the other hand has just simply has such a colossal installed base and set of back catalogues that they can't really do any wrong. They've already got the big necessary developers that cover all the niches signed on. Other than Mistwalker, but I'm sure they won't be MS exclusive forever. Though, Sony did fuck up (just like Microsoft) by making the HDD optional though. Sigh. Then there's also reports that games will be regular DVDs even though the Blu-Ray drive is right fucking there.
Really, I don't understand this generation. It's like, we have flying cars and everyone wants to ride a fucking huffy.

I liked God of War, but having played the Devil May Cry series beforehand I found less innovation than players who didn't. The main difference would have to be the parts where the protagonist takes over and you have to push buttons at the right time, the prerendered cutscenes, and additional polish. Lots and lots of polish - GoW practically glowed a sheen of fine waxy residue.

Funny, innovation was never something I attributed to God of War.

Admittedly, I'm being generous with the word by suggesting that an artfully well done integration of other games' ideas qualifies as a form of innovation. In that way, WoW is innovative too.

I'm with schild on this. It was not innovative, but they nearly killed me with fun. I literally coulnd't put this down.
Edit: Thanks for the heads up schild. Who knows, maybe I'll come away with a Wii too.
Is the Wii backwards compatabile with the gamecube? I'd like to play through RE4 now too.

If you played through using the fire chain swords, play through again next weekend putting all of your points into the sword - when you get it. It plays a little different and you'll appreciate the differences between the weapons by the end. Just remember, with the sword the circle button can be used in combos for different effects.

PC version due early next year. I gotta say, my recent bout with God of War and FFXII have reminded me of the polish that has to go into most console games. What I mean is, I went and installed NWN2 on my Shuttle yesterday, turned down all the gfx and the piece of shit was still buggy. I sat down with FFXII and no such problems. I'm just a little put off the CPU at the moment. Tired of fighting the FPS demons. Why should I have to spend $2000 on a PC to play games at a good FPS, and be able to read blogs, pay my bills and download via bit torrent?
