he-ya, just had the dreaded windows must shut down and restart, but it can't restart, hell it won't start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, or from last good load, or normal windows. I'm not sure, but it crashed while updating CoX...
Anyway, the other pain is that I've been using Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and allthough it was great at first, it has been a major pain in the ass sometimes to get updates, that and I would have to hunt for patches a lot. So instead of doing a clean install of windows (clean the hard drive and start a new), I thought of picking up the regular Windows XP Professional and giving it a go. It doesn't seem like waiting for the new version of windows would be worth while.
Next is that I'm going to rip out the old cable wires in my house and install some new ones, since I have a huge drop in signal from the outside connection to the inside connection. I've been researching wallfishing and it seems like I could do it, and my buddy who is a contractor would be willing to help for a decent price. I was thinking of dropping the wireless network, and going ahead and wiring some ports into the house too, would be a nice system where there is three cable outlets and three ethernet ports. Has anyone done this on a semi-old house (mine was built in 1984, drywall construction with a crawlspace and attic)?

I was looking at doing some wiring but due to my wife's mistrust of my zeal for wirenuts, we hired an electrician. As for the network, everyone here is wireless (and on a laptop) except for my rig. If your airspace isn't too crowded, you might want to check out wireless... but I am sure you have already thought of that. So carry on.

Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone

We have three rooms with computers, both upstairs and downstairs, and good ole Righ had made everything wireless. I made him plug me back in. I'm scared of wireless. I'm sure it's giving me some sort of strange, unincurable cancer! I just know it.
Edited for, well, you see it there.

Wiring in a recently built (84 counts as recent, I count anything post-1960 as new) with drywall construction isn't tough, if you know how to patch drywall :) As long as it's data installation and you know how to terminate coax (assuming that's what you meant by cable?) and rj45, and are also familiar with wiring conventions, go for it imo. You can also use baseboard runs with those plastic thingies if you don't want to tear up the walls. Or pull the baseboards and route a groove behind it for cables if you're only running a couple. Just some ideas.
I had to run wire in a mid-1800s stone and brick library once. We broke many drill bits, 3' big ol' mothers, too. That wasn't fun.

Son of a bitch. That is the sexiest thing I've seen on this site for months. I knew I came here for some reason. I have no idea why I couldn't think of that myself when faced with wiring issues. Thanks Papa Sky! *Salute*

See my comment about my hell-wiring in an old stone building. The board of directors would freak out if I drilled into some of that 150 yr old marble or ran plastic runs. You gotta get creative :) I also worked with a former Verizon cabler and my stepfather was an electrician, so I can get tricky when it comes to wiring.
Glad I could inspire.
Of course, my apartment is draped in wires. :P
