Can't stand The Streets Seconded. Those fuckers need to hire Baddd Spellah or some other real DJ. EDIT: Lady Sovereign's new track, Love Me or Hate Me, is shit. I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Do not argue with me.    |

MIGHT ANYONE CARE TO GET HYPHY? Take the 80s dance hit "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" any Hyphy-ify it, and you get the following... Anyhoo, I figure I should do a series of posts on the hyphy movement.  What is hyphy?  It's a movement originating from the Bay Area, and it's sometimes compared to crunk music.  The idea of hyphy is to have a good time by acting absolutely retarded. Key slang/terms: Yadadameen - You know what I mean? Stunna Shades - Those big cop sunglasses. Get Hyphy - Hop around in a retarded fashion, have fun doing it. Sydeshow - A sideshow is when you and your friends get your cars all lined up in a row, blast the music, put your car in neutral so it's idling forward, open up all four doors, and everybody  Ghost Rides The Whip. Ghost Ride the Whip - When you all hop out of the car at once and start dancing alongside the car, as the car idles forward with nobody in it. Ghost Ride the Whip (2) - When you, an African-American, go out and exclusively find white girls to have sex with. Thizz - Ecstasy. Thizzelle Dance - A dance created by hyphy artist Mac Dre to mock New York.  It's basically an imitation of the Harlem Shake, as if performed by an autistic person. Hyphy is taking the mainstream rap market by storm - artists such as E-40, Keak da Sneak (Perhaps my favorite rap moniker of all time) and Mac Dre (Sadly deceased) are seeing their work marketed as "the new crunk". For those who wonder what all this Hyphy-ing looks like, Google Video provides .  The song in the background is "Town Buziness", by E-40 and Keak da Sneak. Somewhere out there, Bill Cosby dies a little bit more inside.  Bay shit main, yadadameen? |

I've been trying to learn the drop-spin that comes at about 57 seconds into that video for like a month now, but to no avail. :( |

Okay, I've seen it in videos but I absolutely cannot find it online, whether on EBay or CafePress or whatever else.  I assume this is a longshot, but if anyone knows where I can get a black T-shirt with "GHOST RIDE THE WHIP" in large white letters, I would be forever grateful. |

I still think Mobb Deep is the best stuff for a nostalgic walk through the good ole days in the 90's when rap wasn't so fucking lame.  Really it isn't my genre, when I'm at home I'll check some of these links I really need a break from the same old same old also hip hop is the only thing I can get in many of my friend's car stereos. |

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.-William Gibson

Mobb Deep was great. They've changed for the worse though. Like some of us have said, hip hop isn't dead, but I'll admit, I still listen to mostly old stuff too. As far as I'm concerned, no one has topped this . No one will either. This guy got pretty close though. Too many emphasize everything but their skills these days. That's the main difference -- and it's a big difference. Emcee'ing was about skill, wordplay, and poetry -- Now it's about lifestyle, image, or some fantasy shit. Words optional. Even gangsta rappers back in the day, the shallowest group of them all, shallower than Will Smith, were at least still trying to construct something clever. |

Ah, I'm glad someone gave love to Eric B and Rakim.  If you haven't, check out their track "Don't Sweat the Technique".
My roommate this past year, a Japanese foreign exchange student, was a huge Mobb Deep fan. He was bummed out when he found out they joined G-Unit.

Funny, I accidentally linked I Ain't No Joke. Kickass song, but I meant to put in Follow the Leader . Anyways, yeah, Don't Sweat the Technique is a classic. Of course I've heard it :). Rakim's the baddest MC on the planet. Though his newer stuff lacks something (namely, Eric B.). |

For those that care Sage Francis has released a couple non-album songs over here .  Ode to 2005 is really nice. |
