Hey all,
I have finally had the time to play some more CoH the last few days, and the supergroup has been very dead. I think in the last 4 days, the most people I have seen online is 3 at one time.
Is every one getting bored of CoH? I could see how that could happen, I mean, you can only do so many of the same mission before it starts to get old.
Are people all playing in the second or third SG? I want to play with every one, but they are nowhere to be found. I know we had this same thread before, but now it seems even more empty.
I did think this was going to be the problem with COH. Fun combat, instanced mission, and nothing else. What they have, they have done right, but the more I play, the more I am convinced it is missing something.

I've been playing:
Startopia Splinter Cell: PT Hitman: Contracts Warcraft III Frozen Throne Diablo 2 La Pucelle UT2004 Front Mission 4 (demo)
and a few others.
CoH is in the rotation, but considering the time I put in at beta and right after release, the other games I bought needed some love.
EDIT: Warcraft II is not Warcraft III.

Same story in regards to:
Far Cry (now finished and uninstalled) Thief 3 Arx Fatalis Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Ultima VII via Exult
While I believe that City of Heroes is indeed a game worthy of my subscription, I've found myself distracted by these other shiney baubles in the gaming pile.
Honestly, judging by the amount of time I've spent surfing the internet it's gotten to the point where I need to schedule my game time and adhere to the schedule in order to play anything. A goal I've yet to achieve adequettely. It's a bad sign when you manage to clusterfuck your free time.

EDIT: Warcraft II is not Warcraft III. I thought you despised WC3 and Diablo 2. I also have been playing SC:PT, UT2k4, and Hitman. Right now I am on the last level of hitman. The game is fun, but there are some really nasty bugs, ugh.

I reinstalled (and re-bought Diablo II) to play with Soulflame. Warcraft III I am playing for reasons I can not disclose here. Let's just say, yes, I still hate it.
Oh and I've also been playing RoN: Thrones and Patriots.

I don't think that it's so much that people are bored of CoH, it's just not like other MMO's in that you don't feel the need to play it every day to try to get to the end game or farm money and equipment or any of that stuff. People seem to just log in for a little bit when they have some free time.

I am on the protector server and we were just talking about the same thing. Not many SG of ours are online when my friends and I log on. Was not sure if this reflected our SG or the game.
So the comments above help shed light on what is going on.
A good sign from business perspective I think. With folks less inclined to burn through the content, the likelihood of artificial obstacles is reduced and hopefully time is taken for real content to be evenutally added to the game.

I'll stick around another month or two but I'll probably autolimit myself to a level a week more or less rather than the reckless pace I was going at before.
If I do ever make it into the top end range though I am going to be worried about having friends to do the uber content with (you know its coming)

I'm still there. Now and then, when I log in, I'll see Haemish or Plague Goddess on their lunch break. Once in a while I'll see Geldon... but that's about it, for the most part. I'm hanging on to the game but I don't play it very often... I don't feel as if I'm missing anything by ignoring it. I do wonder, however, if, when I finally get into the high level content, anyone will be there to hang around with, too. I've made a lot of different combinations, now, but after about level 10, I seem to find them lacking. I've not really decided what I want my main to be, and I have a nasty feeling that I never will.
Gordon picked up C. Skies and Soul Cal. II the other day and, today, I'm picking up a couple of PC games so I'll likely be in single player mode for a while.

I wanted to play with you guys, but I was wasting time thinking of names/concepts on Victory. I ended up on Infinity and Triumph.
Anyways, I canceled last night, but I might play a little until the sub runs out in a few weeks. Cool game, just needs a little improvement, so I'll probably check it out again when CoV is released. It's partly my fault for being burned out too, because it seems I've just spent the past couple of weeks doing nothin' but CoH (What's the word for that again?).
The good thing is that I've never catassed in a game before this. If I can do it in CoH, then I think it speaks pretty well for the lack of grind and boredom in the game (Hmm, maybe not "lack of", but it is an improvement, and I had fun while it lasted).

I've been playing regularly, just about every week Thursday through Sunday (My Mondays through Wednesdays are horribly packed). However I tend to play late in the day (8pm PST to 2-3 PST usually) so that may be why few people have seen me on.

I've been on here and there. I think my last time in-game was Friday.
Been playing a lot of GTA III (I never played any of the GTA games until buying that one a couple of weeks ago. I'm hooked).
I have no plans to give up on CoH. But, since beta ended, I'm only playing a couple of nights a week.

My new main (I swear ths time) is a Level 9 tanker named Steamjack. Look me up if you're around my level. My attempts at getting into BC went nowhere with my blaster - Aslan was the only one I found on and he had no invite rights - but I'm still playing when I get a chance.

Im still playing pretty regularly, but my "regular" times are a bit odd. I usuallt get in 30-45 mins before work, at lunch time and about 1-2 hours a few weeknights during the week. Weekend are usually my low playtimes.
I;m still enjoying it having started new mission arcs and enemy groups at 20 but like you have noticed a lack of general folks on at nightimes.
It's ok though, b/c the game is still fun for me even soloing, just few people to talk to. The banished pantheon stuff is fun so far.
On an unrelated note, I have taken to steering clear of the offical boards. As usually, the whining is defeaning. If you were to beleive it, every archtype is broken, so as a defender I shouldn't be able to solo whites, let alone yellows oranges and reds. Idiots.

It would be nice to have some more people around (who play more regularly) who can invite to the group. I've mostly stopped playing Signe, except if someone needs her in a group. I have another character, BlackEyed Susan who Haemish invited last week, but I've remade her. I've not been able to find anyone on since then. In fact, the only person with permissions I've seen in several weeks is Haemish... and I have to catch him at his lunch break.

For those of you with some grouping trouble I play a defender (healing focus) for that reason. It's the perfect casual player fit - instant groups often - and if not I can create them pretty quick.
It was my hard lesson from EQ. Enabling classes = self sacrafice class = coveted group value.
Sidekicking is great for this too. Can't get a mate? Grab someone 15 levels below and sidekick them. Add healing/buff to that mix - sidekicks become awesome companions that can be had in any zone. At level 20 I find missions can be done with 3 people often, sometimes 2.

I'm enjoying the fact that I feel absolutely no obligation to play when I don't feel like playing. It's liberating, after the heavy commitments that started to feel like chains dragging me down in EQ and DAoC (guild leadership) and SB (guild officer). I will usually be on at lunch time (CST) on weekdays, and maybe an hour or two a night. If I know I only have an hour or so, I don't usually try to group or get on Teamspeak, because I hate to have to leave in the middle of a group. Weekends are a low play time for me, because I sleep late and stay up real late and usually use that time to do the things I miss out on during the week (movies, cleaning, laundry). With all the Gigs of BT'ed comics I've gotten lately, I've tried to catch up on years worth of missed comics.

I didn't play for a week, then picked it up again over the weekend. It was as fun as ever. I really wish they would fix the goddamned TF missions though- they are a lot of fun, and actually completing one and getting rewarded would be even more fun.
Need to find some more guild officers who are going to be on- I have a couple of alts that need guilding (since they are both based on group play, and soloing with them is a PITA). Also have a scrapper who could use guilding.

I'm still playing, although I've been playing CoH with my wife a lot on Triumph and Protector. Just taking it slow. Haven't grouped a lot since most groups don't want to run missions and want to hunt groups of mobs (i.e. hydras in Perez Park). I'd rather do missions because it feels like I'm actually achieving something rather than killing hydra_034.
I'm usually on after 8pm central. I need to find a chunk of time to try out the TF missions.

Although I've been a guild officer in other games, SB taught me a lesson. I don't think I'll ever be an officer in a guild again. It was too much work and, sometimes, ages would pass before I could just enjoy a bit of the game. One of the main things that appeals to me in CoH is not feeling obligated to play. I drag it out now and then, usually not on weekends either, and can simply have a good time. I don't like the feeling that I've let people down because I didn't play for a while... it takes the fun right out of it.
In SB you had to be very careful who had permissions. You had to be trustworthy and committed to playing a reasonable amount of time. You had to be good at something... preferably strategy and the ability to organise. Although, that aspect could be great fun, it became very stressful as the guild grew larger. We had several battles that went very, very badly because only a couple (sometimes no one) of guild officers were able to attend. Things just fell apart. One by one, the guild officers left and were replaced... it started a cycle.
This game is just fun with no stress. Maybe there could be a few more officers around just for the sake of inviting alts or f13'ers who are new to the game. I'm not sure there is too much more to leading a group... correct me if I'm wrong. At least you know you won't wake up in the morning to find the guild coffers bare and your town in ashes.

I wanted to bring this topic up again. Maybe it was Signe, but someone mentioned they had stopped playing CoH because it lacked that "social" dimension normally found when guilds had to cooperate to achieve major ends for their members.
I look at the explanations above and I just don't buy it. Namely because this looks the norm with a lot of SGs - very few have web sites. Very few really seem to have a need to communicate with each other offline or to share mission knowledge.
I am having trouble prying a friend of mine off EQ for CoH. We have no economy in CoH, and he really gets off on that whole interaction that comes with having an economy. He's right I think. For now CoH has a lot to offer, but this absence of social fabric needs to be addressed - eventually (tradable goods OR high end raids OR crafting etc.).
There is talk of such change in future patches I guess - I hope it materializes.

Yeah, it's not like Bat Country has a preformed semilongstanding community with a website or eighty. Oh wait.

CoH doesn't REQUIRE a guild, at least not early, so as a result, I think many CoH guilds don't get too chummy. There is really not an overarching GOAL to the game, such as high-level loot type raids, as it's really more a "process" game; i.e. you enjoy the process of playing the game.
The fact that many of us are jaded, burned out mofos probably increases our desire to just play when we want to play and if there is an SG there, we'll participate or not.
Casualness has its perks.

Until there is some sort of in-game benefit for SG membership (and participation) beyond a semi-nifty chat channel and roster, SGs will continue to see marginal use. Something like a guildhouse/base where we could all trade or store enhancements and inspirations would be a start. Maybe some sort of random item generator ala SB vendors...
