Icecrown, one of the first servers to be deployed and has always been notoriously bad when compared to other servers (earning the name icedown on numerous occasions), finally got a hardware upgrade on tues/weds after a huge bitchfest shitstorm. The server goes down for 24 hours, comes back up, and my latency goes from ~350 to ~50. In IF. At 8pm. Suddenly, I cloak almost instantly, healers have enough time to get the heals off, and we we able to kick sekram out of every fucking arcane explosion. Burned all the way through to princess last night without a hitch.

Of course, then the bitch flattened us at 30% like she always does. Oh well! I still love my latency!

Did they upgrade any other launch servers? I play(ed) on Proudmoore (Lagmore) and I might even re-up if the game is playable now..

I've read from a non-Blizzard source that all the launch servers are scheduled for similar replacement over the next few weeks. They're doing them slowly, a batch at a time. I don't know whether there was an official announcement or not. I'm on Proudmoore, and it's not upgraded yet.

If you could post a bump on this thread when they do, after you've had a chance to play on it. I'd also be really interested to see what it's like on our weekends.

thanks!

I'll let you know, although I finally got Oblivion to run so I'm playing that.

Last night I did log on during primetime to my server and got in without the customary 15 to 30 minute log in sequence of trying over and over again.  I don't know if traffic was low due to the holiday or what.

Actually, I believe they just replaced/upgraded their authentication system.  It had gotten really bad, then they announced they were going to upgrade to a new system to fix it.  Recently, I have had absolutly no problems on log in, so I assume it worked.

Edit:  Heh, just read the other thread about people complaining the upgrade failed miserably.  I dont know, but since they "upgraded", I have had absolutly no problems logging in.  Maybe I'm just lucky or something.

Today I couldn't log on again for a good half hour.

It's ok though! I have Oblivion to play!

Please dear GOD let them do this to Tichondrious.

It has reached the point where the 2 major giulds on my server (mine and an bigass alliance catass guild) are considering (halfheartedly, but actually considering) petitioning an admin for a server transfer.  Queues are obscene, even on what used to be low activity periods, and on busy days, lag makes it impossible to do ANYTHING.  Raids suffer from lootlag, general zone lag (nothing like trying to do any remotely intensive fight in 1 to 3 second cast lag for instant cast spells) and god help you if you die.....the other night, it literally took yo 5 to 8 minutes to do any kind of zone change.  Zoning into a raid zone, releasing if you die, then running around INSIDE the instance as a ghost before hitting another 5 minute wait for the graveyard zone, then ANOTHER 5 minute wait to get back into the instance.

A wipe on Rajaxx was litterally a 20 minute event just to get everyone zoned back in due to wait times on load screens.

Darwinism is the Gateway Science.
