Imagine an eBay style feedback system for WoW. Somebody up and leave your group in the middle of an instance? Just leave them negative feedback. Find an awesome player to group with? Leave them positive feedback. Before grouping with anybody, pull up their feedback (preferably inside the game.)

While I do not play or have played WoW, this seems to be a system that may work in other games in the future.

I await snide comments and funny yet insightful comment from the general population of F13 on this.

Too many immature people in game for a reliable feedback system to hold any credibility.  This would simply create a new method of griefing.

Where is the info stored?  On user's machines?  Could I change my data to give all positive reviews?  Do I need this installed to be ranked, so I could simply uninstall if I don't like my rating?  If other people store the data do they end up building huge lists of every person they have rated?

It is an interesting idea, but it without more details I worry it is prone to have problems.

Yeah, or conversely, meaningless feedback circlejerks.  Now if it was in some way automated where you could pull up stats showing how many times someone actually has bailed on an instance, needed an item they can't currently use, cried "heal" (that's the priest in me talking smiley) or what have you, it might be helpful.  In a very small way this does happen as you can see if someone has recently bailed on a battleground with their deserter debuff.  That'd have to last days to be approaching useful though.

Shadowbane used the same system - and I loved it.  The key to getting this system to work - so it is not abused - as SB implemented it seemed simple enough:  for the user feedback - the character assigning the feedback comment name was identified.  I think in a game like WOW with so many alts - I would only trust such feedback based on names on the list that I recognized and knew.  I like the idea.

It'd have to be really stupid -- the automatic system -- and only be able to judge whether you could equip an item. And what if you were 54 with half a buble to 55, three quests finished in that instance, and rolled "need" on a 55 BoP weapon that was a massive upgrade? You'd be able to use it within the hour --- but the system would claim it was a ninja-steal because you couldn't equip.

You're right, there would have to be some leeway on the level issue.  Maybe even group members could elect not to give you a naughty stat via a little popup ballot.

Isn't the /rec system in Lineage 2 a very simplified version of this?
The more /recs you get, the bluer your character name gets.
Of course it doesn't work there, as people keep exchanging /recs, and it doesn't help that you only can give 3 per day (or level? not sure).

Ensure that any one active account can only give any one other account (tie the reps to the account, not the character, I'd say) a single "vote", and gaming the system becomes a very costly venture.  Joe Catass Griefer may well have 10 accounts that all give each other good votes, but he's sure to piss off more than 10 people who will happily balance him out.

90% of the grief caused online is perpetrated by 1% of the population.  Reputation systems allow the "silent majority" to share information and avoid that 1%.

Let anyone rate anyone as long as they were grouped for X amount of time. However, when viewing feedback only the feedback of players on one's friend's list/guild/etc would be seen. So Tiggy Bites might have 50 feedbacks but you will only see the ones left by people you associate with. This will limit the grief opportunity somewhat I would think.

I have never played WoW.

Nobody ever used this system in SB, ever.

Black marks and white marks.  You clicked on the player and you could see player comments about the player - and who assigned them.  If you want more details - the comments were administered by officers of your guild - not by the general player population, so it was limited in scope.  But it gave players something to strive for in terms of the marks they accumulated describing their contributions to the guild.  Similarly, folks have left guilds for receiving black marks with negative comments associated with their character assigned by an officer of their guild.

When I played the marks system in SB was used pretty much not at all. It was one of the clunkier bits of a clumsy interface. The other bit of accountability allowed the officers of a guild to make someone KOS to the guards in their city. It was a great idea, but the guards were so incredibly bad, unless the person got in range and stayed perfectly still, there was no way the guards would ever be able to catch them. But the KOSed guy could take your guards for a 50-mile jog, leaving your city completely defenseless to the army that came behind.
