I recently heard of The Raconteurs (interesting website) which is another band with Jack White (The White Stripes). Their single is pretty good (Steady as She Goes).
Went to a bar/band joint this weekend and heard a local band called Solar, and they were pretty good. Rocky alternative, good stuff.
Any recommendations from the peanut gallery for music? If it's downloadable on iTunes, even better! (As long as it's not country or hip hop).
Like most people, I'm still spending money on albums from the past. BUT, there are a few cool things coming out....For people who like guitars at least. Richard Thompson has an album coming out in June (Raph, you'd probably dig it), and Tom Verlaine has 2 being released this month.
Popular music wise: the Eagles of Death Metal - Death By Sexy (QOTSA meets T-Rex....Sort of).
However, all that being said, the one CD that will not leave my player currently is The Sun Years by Johnny Cash. My boy likes singing to Mean Eyed Cat.

I've been listening to some of my latest purchases, mostly blues but I buy pretty eclectically.
A collection of early blues by Alan Lomax for the Library of Congress is getting the most ear right now. It has Muddy's first recording that convinced him to move to Chicago, and one of my favorite blues songs, I Be's Troubled.
For non-blooze, I recently got a new live disc from Mars Volta, probably my favorite modern band. I just don't listen to a lot of new music, my next music order is the early Allman Brothers Band discs, an Elmore James compilation, and a couple early ZZ Top discs.
