Police Hit Grandmother With Taser Gun Five TimesOfficer Said Woman Resisted Arrest POSTED: 1:30 pm EST December 8, 2005 UPDATED: 1:51 pm EST December 8, 2005 FRANKLIN, Ohio -- A 68-year-old woman was hit with a Taser gun by police in an Ohio city five times. The police officer in the case, a lieutenant with the Franklin Police Department, claimed that he is the victim in the case, Columbus, Ohio, television station WCMH reported. Beverly Kidwell, 68, was in the waiting room of the police department in suburban Dayton when the incident occurred. According to police, she came into the station to be arrested for hitting her granddaughter. Kidwell said she waited a long time in the lobby and, when she got up to leave, the officer hit her with the Taser gun. "I don't know if he thought I was going to get up and leave or what, but he pulled his gun. I thought it was a gun. I'd never seen a Taser gun in my life and I thought, 'Oh my God. He's going to shoot me. He's going to kill me,'" Kidwell said. The police lieutenant said she was resisting arrest, WCMH reported. Kidwell said she was in a fetal position and unable to move when the lieutenant ordered her to get up and continued to shock her. The woman survived five jolts and had to be taken to an area hospital. Big man with the taser gun, aren't you? |

He couldn't call for backup in the police station?
For once, I'm glad Big Brother was watching via surveillance camera.

He tased a grandmother. Send it to America's Funniest Cop Videos and the prize money will cover the lawsuits.
The absurdity of the situation is pretty amusing.

Yes, he should have called for back up.  A team armed with tasers should teach her a lesson. |

A sitting grandmother.  I'm sure several more officers could have easily secured her arms and forced her prone so she could be handcuffed.  After all, I wouldn't ask a police officer to face an old woman in a chair by himself. |

Now, now, I'm sure she was dangerous. She was probably knitting the officer some socks, knowing he's allergic to wool. |

She could've been a terrorist.  The only way to safely deal with a 90 lb arthritic grandmother is to taser her until she is a shivering, drooling pile of flesh, at which point the dogs can be brought in test for explosives or box cutters.  Had there been time, tear gas should also have been employed, but since she was already in the process of enacting some sort of plan, the only option was to think fast and taser.  The article failed to go on to say, after being arrested she will be deported to Guantanimo where she will be tortured for information on other cells for 1-2 years, after which point she may be released for trial.  Should there be lingering doubt, she will transferred again, this time to secret facilities in eastern Europe for further processing.
Your country will be kept secure.  Resistance is futile.

"Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us." -SC
