The demo was really freaking great. Some of the most game-changing smoke I've seen in a game thus far. Having played through the first one hardcore style, I've been looking forward to this title for a long time. There's a good chance I'll play it even before I get into Civ IV. If the multiplayers decent, I might even chance putting up a server for this - assuming I have the time to play more than the single player campaign.

The demo was quite good...but there was little to no replayability in it. I played in through a 2nd time, but it was boring once you've seen all the scripted playerun cutscenes (and judging from the tailer, I think I've seen the entire games worth already).

Expecting replayability out of a single player campaign in an FPS is simply asking to much, me thinks. Well, at least with an FPS based on WWII. I can see games like Deus Ex and Thief having replayability, but not CoD. And I don't go in expecting any.

That's a big reason I don't buy single player fps games.

I keep being surprised by the news that there are single player fps games. People debating the merits of Q4 without playing it online makes my head hurt.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

Single Player FPS games > Multiplayer FPS games for the most part. Seriously, a game doesn't have to be online to be fun. Deus Ex, Half Life, Half Life 2, F.E.A.R., AvP2, N.O.L.F., Thief 1/2/3, etc. etc. stand quite well on their own as single player titles.

Yah, that one had me shaking my head a bit. I didn't even know Q2 had a single player campaign until someone mentioned it recently. Q3 didn't have one at all, right? When I think Quake, I think multiplayer. Ohh, and anytime you're surprised there are single player fps games? Just think of Max Payne 1 & 2. Noir + FPS =

Yeah I know of these games but I just dont play them, since DiabloI its been a rule if the game doesn't have an online component I'm not going to bother, which really makes me different then a ton of the people around here. But frankly I love discussing the stupid things more then I do playing them 95% of the time so I'm not going anywhere.
I've heard of HL's amazing story, but I never bothered back then it really did not matter to me. I guess my surprise is more that people buy PC games to just play SP, I expect that from consoles but PC's are expensive and the internet is a given component of that package, why not use it?

So you don't think there was ever several ways to secure objectives in the real ww2? Or perhaps you don't have any faith in game developers to actually make a game that gave you some choices as to how you carry out the mission? Ever play Operation Flashpoint?

Oh man was that a great game. I remember the tension trying to ghost through a level, skirting the edge of a forest while infantry patrols ranged past, slowly crawling along a hedgeline to avoid the choppers patrolling overhead...Once I was cruising down a roadway and spotted an incoming tank, I dove into the ditch, concealed by a bush as the tank pulled to a stop right next to me for a minute before continuing his patrol....
Great game, OpFlash was. So much replayability due to the flexibility of missions, without using ductwork as an 'alternate route'.

Played some of this and they did a PRETTY GOOD job at hiding the infinite spawns of enemies.
Not perfect though, there have been about half a dozen instances of the die/reload mambo, cause enemies will spawn right behind me or something lame.
The better game is Vietcong 2, though, where doing the die/reload mambo there messes stuff up quite a bit. Like there will be an MG firing at you from a certain building, it kills you, you reload and that MG is no longer there, it's elsewhere, and just killed you again. Also enemies inside houses and stuff path around, shooting out of various windows. One time there could be 4 guys in a certain room, the next time it's empty, etc.
