OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City man is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and holding a moving sale at the woman's apartment while her body was stashed in a back bedroom, police said.
Norman Baker, 48, was arrested this week and is being held in the Oklahoma County jail without bond on complaints of murder and posession of drug paraphernalia.
The identity of the 61-year-old woman has not been released pending notification of relatives.
Neighbor Mary Dennis said her suspicions were aroused after she attended the moving sale.
"I picked out a couple lamps and a deep fryer I said I'd like to have," Dennis said, "so then I was going to go look in the bedroom. ... He (Baker) jumped up and lured me back to the merchandise he was selling. He didn't want me to go in the bedroom."
Police were notified and found the woman asphyxiated and wrapped in bedding in the bedroom of the apartment.
Baker, a transient who lists his address as the City Rescue Mission, was arrested about three hours later at a Salvation Army location.
Dennis' daughter, Ellen Meeks, spent $35 to buy the victim's vacuum cleaner, deep fryer, electric skillet and two lamps.
"It'll be a long while before I even think of using this stuff under the circumstances," Meeks said.
