Wedding brochure pulled after model groom beat his brideEMILY DENNI
A WEDDING brochure featuring happy newlyweds has been withdrawn after it emerged the groom was jailed for beating his bride months after their big day.
The picture on the front cover of the brochure, called Your Norfolk Ceremony, showed Gary Setchell and his wife, Sharon, surrounded by friends and family after tying the knot.
But unknown to Norfolk County Council, which published the brochure to promote getting married in the county, the partnership turned sour and Setchell was later jailed for assaulting his wife.
King's Lynn magistrates sent Setchell to prison for two months in June after hearing how the former captain of King's Lynn football team kicked and beat his wife during a row on New Year's Eve.
Council officials only became aware of the couple's identity and the acrimonious split after they were contacted by a local newspaper.
Hundreds of copies of the brochure were printed when the Setchells still lived together, and were still available yesterday from the county's nine register offices.
Steven Reilly, a spokesman for Norfolk County Council, said the brochure was being withdrawn to avoid any distress to those involved.
He said: "It is important to stress that the brochure has been in existence since early 2004 and unfortunately we would have had no way of knowing what was to follow with regards to this couple.
"The photographs in the brochure are intended to be anonymous and simply reflect the service on offer."
