I don't recall griefing ever being made out to be this fun in any other game. It's definately more fun in WoW. There's all of what? A handful of raids to do at Endgame and PvP that's relatively vanilla? What do you do in a game where the catass can max out in, ya know, 3 weeks? You become a ninja.

Everything is more fun in this game. That's part of the problem. There are now Ninja Heroes on the boards - regular Robin Hoods. Though, they admit, that they steal from the rich and at that point it's soulbound and the poor are just shit out of luck....

I find it hard to laugh in the same way I find it hard to laugh at jokes about marital infidelity. If this happened to me on a raid, I'd get a little pissed, and probably log for the night in frustration. But then again, I'd actually have to be raiding, which I find it hard to find time to do anymore.
I think this sort of thing is more prevalent in WoW because a) WoW has drawn a new breed of dickhead to the MMORPG scene b) MMOPRG movies are now easy to make c) WoW's CS policy is ineffective at dealing with this d) more people tend to read boards now e) most guild raids set FFA loot to avoid the buginess and f) people are still broken. There's now a waiting and captive audience for this kind of douchery and there's an effective and easy to use medium to deliver it in. I don't buy that it's relatively easier to do because of WoW's short leveling curve. You're looking at a bare minimum of 300 hours played to pull that sort of grand scale pooch screw off. If you max in 3 weeks you're looking at 4 days a week doing nothing but sitting your bony ass in a chair (ie cut the fucking hyperbole already).
As for the Teamspeak, you're garunteed to have at least one over-reacting, middle aged, female in your guild. The one that has her husband do the actual parenting while she catasses to victory. The suicide comment seemed more like a poor attempt at humor from someone that's garunteed to make a comment about everything and anything in Teamspeak. Unless I'm raiding, it's off. Even then, if I'm in healbot mode, it's off. Listening to geeks prattle on gets old.

I don't know if I'd be all that pissed if this happened to me, since I'm probably going to be unguilded for the entire time I play WoW. This means I have precisely fuck-all chance of ever getting anything in a raid, much less getting into a raid group in the first place.

Large scale, small scale, it's still the same thing. Just instead of pissing off 4-9 people in a regular instance run, you're pissing off 39 in MC.

This movie just makes me unhappy. :[
EDIT: Geek empathy? I dunno, it's just vaguely displeasing to watch, heh.

I'd say it a bit harder for someone to fuck up the looting in a small 4-5 person group. It's also easier to get a group together full of people you actually trust. Pickup groups? You deserve whatever you get.

e) most guild raids set FFA loot to avoid the buginess Yay Blizzard? Not that they give a fuck, I'm sure. This combined with the short leveling curve WILL increase douchery, along with the fact that 1.5 million cocktards are playing the game. People are still broken, but Blizzard aids and abets that shit with not fixing things like raid loot bugs.

People are still broken, but Blizzard aids and abets that shit with not fixing things like raid loot bugs. Could people please stop making this retarded argument (in bold)? My lvl 58 monk in EQ had less days played than both of my characters when they hit 60. Fastest you're going to hit 60 in WoW is 10 days played if you're the right class and you set the blinders on. That's 240 (lowered estimate a tad, you can get invited to MC fairly soon after getting guilded and some guilds have little to no incubation period) hours just to hit the point where guilds will even consider bringing you along for something like this to come to fruition. Sure for most people it's a very short curve (AC2 and Shadowbane were infinitely shorter), but it's still no short order to position yourself for a truly epic "ninja". Increase the leveling 50% and you'd still see plenty of this. Time's not the issue, I'm afraid. Second part is right on. But I believe they did fix (or are fixing) the ML loot bug. We just don't have it on incase the master looter goes link dead, dies in a very bad spot or we get ourselves in a very shitty situation post kill. Plus, our guild is pretty trusting and has yet to get screwed. One guy sold some BoE stuff on the AH, but that was a long time ago (before I joined) and he was quickly kicked.

That's after numerous expansions, including raising the level cap at least a couple of times.

Well, that was back in the day before AA and the cap was still 60. Level 58 means I was still pulling for a top ranked guild on our server. Of course, at that point playing EQ gave me flu like symptoms (hmmm.. psychosomatic illnesses probably means this end game shit aint for me). Luckily only MC invokes this kind of reaction from me, which is why I don't go (unless I'm really bored or the wife is outta town, and thus.. really bored).

Apparently, the video was only the beginning of the magic. The incident is discussed, here.Quote: Selariah
I have a friend on Arthas that explained this whole situation to me, so I'll clarify exactly what happened here.
This rogue, in revenge for a Hunter rolling on and receiving the Deathstriker (now the Felstriker) instead of him (he was the only rogue in that UBRS raid), decided to take out some MAJOR revenge on the guild he was in. Basically, he got someone suspended for 3 days by reporting some racist language used in guild/raid chat, then managed to get one of the guild members to give away their username and password (he would later do some nasty things to his account I believe), and then ninja'd Garr's loot on a Molten Core raid.
All this gave this rogue the credentials to enter the DarkWolves guild, a guild of known, famous griefers. To get into the guild, you have to do stuff like this... level a character to 60, join another guild, and then grief them somehow. So for this rogue, this whole incident was at once revenge, and his ticket into the DarkWolves. That's why in the vid, he's asking for a guild invite from someone. I was wondering why the fuck he asked for an invite near the end of the vid.

Even in pre-expansion EQ, I mean pre-Kunark, leveling to 50 was a feat of perseverence. Consider that during that time, there were exactly 2 leveling zones post 45, Lower Guk and Sol B. If you tried to do planes raids and dragon raids, expect it to take longer to level because of the sure loss of experience you'd get from multiple deaths. Throw on top of that the old "hell levels" that were 30, 35, 40 and 45, as well as the absolutely soul-crushing death penalty and pre-Kunark, you have a leveling curve that is a marathon. Even when you added Kunark zones into the equation, you still had the hell levels, tougher Kunark mobs and the added 10 levels from 50-60. And that luscious death penatly.
Seriously, the leveling curve in WoW is a goddamn cake walk compared to EQ in any incarnation, even now. Also consider that for a lot of the curve in WoW, you do not need a group, whereas in EQ, soloing to those levels was almost impossible for most classes.

I just read that also, apparently the ubrs raid was lead by said guild and only allowed the hunter to roll because he was in the guild too. I now officially retract my "not funny" post earlier, this is fucking hilarious now.

This (where the Hunter got the DeathStriker) seems like a case where a game's attempt to mitigate conflict (through the loot rolling system) backfired.
When games try too hard to regulate behavior, people completely stop trying to be reasonable and begin to just follow the game's lead in lieu of any common-sense social norms.

The other one is funnier because it has that annoying girls voice. This one wasn't so much, but how didn't anyone notice he wasn't doing anything? Also, inspecting everyone? People are so stupid.
