I'm Doctorgonzo no more. I blame you people. I'll spare you the blog entry. I hit 36 and said to hell with it. Last MMO ever.

Red: Rehabilitated? Now let me see. You know, I don't have any idea what that means.
Parole official: Well, it means that you're ready to rejoin society.
Red: I know what you think it means, sonny. To me it's just a made up word; a politician's word. So young fellas like yourself can wear a suit, and tie, and have a job. What do you really want to know? Am I sorry for what I did?
Parole official: Well, are you?
Red: There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then then, a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a shit.

Damn dog, that was deep.  What movie that came from?

It can scare the shit outta you to think how much time you waste in these stupid fucking games, and while not comparable to a man who waste his life in jail, thier are eirie parallels...
Then again, most everybody waste time on some stupid ass activity

PS:  I know this site was basically founded by people who burnt out on mmogs anyway, but how'd you develop your hate at 36 level?  Some of my fond memories are hiding from alliance in STV...

I hate you so much right now. I was going really well not wanting to re-up to UO and now I'm at a point where I want to but know that it's too messed up too long to hold any appeal if I actually play. :(

I have some history with burnout. Each iteration gets quicker. STV was actually the last straw for me. Not being able to kill a player just because they were higher level (10 ish) is stupid. The level disparity in PvP makes it impossible to play casually, because you have to be level 60 to gaurantee a fair fight. At least in UO and Shadowbane, someone about 75% up the ladder could drop an uber character if they were smart, but my 36 ass couldn't kill a 44 character unless he was afk.

That, and *dazed*

Hmmm, if you have some skill and the enemy does not, you can drop them in PvP with a ten level difference.  I've done it myself.

Playing a level based game for pvp combat is silly. WoW is more lenient than most of this kind of system about who you can affect but in a level based pvp if you are not maxed level you will get into fights where you cannot hope to defend yourself at all no matter how skillfull you are.

I have a funny feeling the guy was afk (or a total kid).  You are not gonna kill a guy 10 levels above you alone with all the resists.

Actually, a rogue can quite often pull this off, simply because you seem to get a lot less "misses" from mele attacks then you do "resists" from spells.

And I'm a rogue.  And I've done it a fair few times now...

That being said, please note carefully the bit where I said 'If you have skill and the enemy does not'.  Every time I win these fights, I am surprised.

Ahh, I don't have a high level mele so I can't really do a proper comparison between the resist rate of spells to mele attacks.
I assumed it was supposed to be about the same, but I know my mage gets resists off level 20 creatures and below even.

You also have to bear in mind that a Good Rogue will have you down to half health before you know he's there.

Any level-based MMORPG with PvP (sans PvP instancing) will basically come down to:  1)  Max your level, 2)  PvP.

WoW, even though there are occasionally decent PvP fights while you are leveling up, falls under the same category (although maybe with Warsong Gulch things have changed a bit).  The kicker is always whether the PvE is bearable or not.  I actually had a decent amount of fun being propelled through the WoW grind with micro-achievement in the form of quests.  But I never had any real belief that I would have a good PvP experience until I maxed.

The biggest problem I have with WoW is not its level-centricity (well, I did max out after all), but its item-centricity.  This is a serious issue for PvP enjoyment for me currently, and it will only get worse.  Note that I have no problems with items influencing the diversity of combat, as this is a good thing.  But aquisition of items should be horizontal development, not vertical.

Well, that's two on one, so the odds are in their favour.  However, I still disagree.  If they're that clueless, a serious player could own em.

Hmm, i guess it depends on the matchup, but as a 45 mage i would feel pretty comfortable taking on a 40 and 35...

IF either of the pair is a Priest, paladin, or mage, sheep that one first (and in that order of importance), else, sheep the 40 1st.

You have approx 15 seconds to drop a target that is 5 or 10 levels below yourself, depending on which class was which level.  If you can't do this as a mage, as Huzzzah would say, "you need your feeding tube removed".

For the remaining opponent, either finish him off (depending on how much mana you have left) or kite with level 1 frostbolt untill deminishing returns on poly has expired, re-sheep, and evoc/bandage back up to full.

For rogues it would be even more of a cakewalk, since AFAIK thier is no way to dispel sap, and melee attacks do increased damage vs lower level targets, meaning that 35 could easily go down in ONE backstab.

I would be interested to know what class WTFman was using and the classs of his opponents, and obviously it depends also on a number of tactical variables.  One of my favorite things to do with my shadow priest after being jumped by a melee class was to shield/renew while on the run toward a pack of creeps (such as ruins with bloodscalp trolls in STV).  After getting to just within aggro range, run threw the melee and fear, alot of times he'd go running strait into the creeps ^_^

Good times.

Agreed.  That statement by WTFman doesn't ring true to my experience with the game.
