Hi Folks,

I have looked on the intarweb and have found nothing so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Is there a way to join a chat channel of a different zone from the one you're currently in? Suppose I am looking for an Uldaman group in Orgrimmar but don't want to spend the next four hours sitting in Orgrimmar waiting when I can Quest elsewhere, so I travel to Tanaris and join the Orgrimmar LFG Channel from there. Is there a way to do something like that?

If I understood the recent (last patch,I think) change right, you can talk to any inkeeper and enter some kind of queue(sic?) for instances appropriate for your level.

Never tried it though, since I am not allowed to group with non-guild members. (Who would want to group with a roleplaying orc anyway ? BG's are fun enough in this respect)

Yes, I do this all the time.  From whatever zone you are in, you click on the "join new channel" option from the window tab menu.  In the box that pops up, type "General - Orgrimmar".  Do it again for "LookingForGroup - Orgrimmar" (you have to use the tab, using the /join command does not seem to work).  You are now in those channels, and can move them to whatever window you want.

Some words of warning: manually leave those channels before logging off or zoning into Orgrimmar with the /leave [channelnumber] command.  If you don't, you often end up in two dead or ghost channels called "general" and "lookingforgroup."  They don't hurt you by themselves, but they can put you at or over the 10 channel limit if you are in a lot of channels.  The only way I know of to get rid of them is to delete your chat settings from your WTF folder (I think thats the folder, it might be in WBD or whatever), which resets all your chat settings to default (which is a pain if you are anal like me and have 5 different windows with different filters on each).

In short, it sure would be fucking nice if Blizzard had a serverwide lfg channel.  But this workaround works for me when I'm keeping an eye out for a pickup group.  If anyone knows a better way, I'd be glad to hear it.

This post makes me want to squeeze into my badass red jeans.

I've been reluctant to use the innkeepers to group up... dunno why I think I'd get a worse group than folks actively organizing on the LFG channel.  Just paranoia I guess.
