Recently purchased a 27 inch LCD widescreen for my bedroom.  Looking for a reasonably priced home theater setup for my bedroom to go along with it.  Not looking for molar rattling bass or anything, but at least something that lets you know its there.  The caveat is, to please the wife, it needs to be relatively compact, and the speakers need to be just about unnoticable.  I've *thought* about flush mounted wall speakers, with the grating painted the same color as the walls, but dont know how they sound.  The base needs to have DVD/tuner built in...

Recommendations?  Suggestions?  I would prefer to keep it under 1K.

I have a Sony Dream System, which works fairly well (it's a tuner+dvd player+amp with 5 speakers and a woofer). I like it but I also seem to be having overheating problems on occasion. As long as you don't watch 3 movies back to back it should be fine though.

There's better ones out there in a package like this, but I don't think you can find them cheaper.

If you must get an all in one.

I hate Sony's audio stuff.

I'm suprised - Schild actually suggested a piece of equipment that isn't especially avant-garde or stupid-expensive.

Yet Strazos still managed to complain about things costing to much for him.

Yet you still manage to misinterpret the comment.

And besides, there's a difference between something being more expensive than one can afford to pay, and something being more expensive than it is worth....and as this is purely an matter of opinion, this would be another stupid fucking argument to have with you

The Yamaha looks nice, though it doesn't have a DVD player.

Something like this might be better.

Dont need 720W (or 900W) in the bedroom (although with the vibrations it will cause, my wife might disagree).

Might have to rethink that....

I have an Onkyo receiver in my living room, 7.1 THX blah blah blah, Polk speakers, etc so if I want to go deaf, I have that option there

I like the Bose seen here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6727839&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat40200050002&id=1083715896174

But Bose is rediculously overpriced, and I am not exactly sure if its worth it...But its neat, tidy...

The Yamaha is not that loud and in that price range the choices are minimal. Also, Bose is shit. Don't waste your money.

The Yamaha is nice, dont get me wrong, but its really more than what I need.  Remember its a bedroom, not an entertainment room (per se).  Thats the reason I set the price range as low as I did.  I didnt spend all that much on the Olevia LCD TV, actually (799 with a 200 dollar mail in rebate from Office Depot).  Freaking great picture, nice features, albiet stripped down somewhat.  The only reason I like the Bose is because it IS neat and tidy, but have heard bad things about them.

You need a DVD player, one of these preamplifiers, six of these monoblock amplifiers, several speakers and a subwoofer. At 500W/channel, its theoretically under 1K.

Not bad... Next time I want to see something esoteric.

Also, no self-respecting audiophile would have a subwoofer or surround sound.  2 channels ftw!

It's under 1K watts RMS per channel, yeah. That's not what you meant?
