I don't know about you all, but I've been waiting for a golf mmorpg for a long, long time. Downloading it now, will post my impressions tonight. But anyway, here's a linky. Sign up and I'll be around tonight to play.

Ok, so, it's odd. It's your standard MMORPG. But uhm, with golf.

I guess you could call it grinding, but erhm, there isn't really any grinding. I enjoy golf more than I enjoy hotkey combat.

There's a short tutorial at the beginning that's more effective than any MMOG tutorial I've ever had the pleasure of using experiencing being forced upon me.

The anime-ness only exists in splashscreens.

It's done by the same people as that Scorched Earth game some of us played a while back. I can't remember what it's called. Ah, wait, Gunbound. I lied. It's not.

And uhm, yea, I like it. I'm 'schild' in game, of course. They're gonna have tournament setups and whatnot. may be a fun diversion for those of us without Xbox Live.

Small world, one of the irc channels I stop-by when I decide I want to d/l some new anime is a small group of people who are always into the latest stupid game (introduced me to Gunbound and Iro in the past).  I just went on another cartoon binge, hence the RahXephon avatar and dropped in to see what they were up to.  They were all playing a golf game, usually I avoid golf like the plague so I didn't ask but this must have been it.  Will D/L tonight as I'm still a month away from flying HAC in EvE and haven't succumbed to buying T:Vengeance yet/finally so I haven't had much to do when it comes to gaming.  Been actually falling asleep before 12:30 recently, that has to stop.

Shot-Online is free. And I'm wary of buying a year of XBL now with the 360/Xenon/NexBox coming out in less than 6 months.

I always thought golf would be a good mini game to have in a MMOG.
Dark Cloud 2's golf mini-game add much to game, and could not have been much extra programming.

OK, I need some explanation. WHAT is a gold MMORPG. I mean, how many players are there at a time, and what are they doing? How are you grinding? How about a one paragraph description of the game, I'm having trouble seeing how golf could be a MMORPG.

Ok. It's a sports arena where people go off on their own games with a centralized lobby/world where people congregate.

Also, there's worldwide rankings. THink of it as golf instancing with pvp and limited groups where you meet up in a guild wars like world inbetween instanced missions.

Could it be that developers are figuring out that the "G" in "MMORPG" is "Game" and not "Grind"?  We're seeing more and more games take established fun styles of gameplay and stick them into massive worlds.  I like this trend.

Apparently your character will level up while playing. Not sure what that means in terms of gameplay. Also you can earn money to upgrade your clubs and stuff like that.

I'll be online playing this tonight probably around 10PM EST for a few hours. I saw Viin online, if we could get 1 or 2 more, we'd be able to get a good 3-4 player game going. Assuming Viin shows as well.  :-D

Edit: BTW, my putting. Atrocious. Long game and scrambling is good though.

I wanted to play but my fucking artic-cooling expensive fan is no longer working.  I believe that its not the fan's fault though but that somehow the video card isn't providing power to it.  So that kind of fucked up my whole evening untill I realized that I could spin this problem into justification to go out and build a new rig.

I am enjoying the game.  I had one of those nights on Tuesday where I was playing golf and looked at the clock and it was 4:30 am.  I haven't done that with a game for a while.  So, since I didn't sleep at all on Tuesday, I only played about 24 holes on Wednesday.

The Engrish is a bit annoying and, while there is a decent tutorial, there isn't much in the way of any advanced help, ie, draws, fades, the benefits of buying a glove, etc. 

Rounds are fun as long as you don't get the 2 morons that I played with the other night.  After maxing out the first 2 holes, I finally got one of them to actually switch from the driver to any other club.  The other refused to switch because he wanted to go "Booommm."  Seriously.  I am hoping that he was speaking English as a second language but I think he was simply a moron.  Here is a tip:  Don't try to chip over the water with your driver. 

The fact that you get payed in ng's instead of gold or money is annoying as I have no idea what an ng actually is.  Movement while not playing the game is annoying as is sitting on the stupid benches between rounds.  However, while fatigue accumulates while playing, there is no point during a round in which you can sit down to rest.  So, you have to hope that you level during a round or buy some stupid drink to recover fatigue. 

They have some quest screen in the UI.  I have no idea what kind of quest you can get to play golf that won't involve shooting a lower score. 

All in all it is a solid sports game. 

Two tips:  1.  Use the right click button to move the red dot down to create backspin on your short irons. 

2.  The moving green lines on the putting green grid show the direction of the grain.  So if the lines move toward you, the putt is uphill.  If the lines move to the right, the break is right so aim left.
