Police: Man Threatens To Kill Over Cable Bill
Suspect Being Held On $200,000 Bond

POSTED: 7:15 pm EDT April 8, 2005
UPDATED: 7:45 pm EDT April 8, 2005

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. -- A man was taken into custody by police after he allegedly made threats to employees at a Comcast customer service station in St. Clair Shores.

Daniel Taugher, 41, rode his bike to the service center and went inside to complain about the price of his bill, Local 4 reported. Police said he started shouting threats while in the lobby.

Taugher (pictured, left) said he was going to blow up the building and told employees he would kill everyone inside, according to police. Detectives believe he was under the influence of alcohol.

Taugher left the service center, but later returned to the area.

Police said they took him into custody when they found him at a nearby field, interrupting some youth athletic games.

Comcast released the following statement on Friday in response to the threats: "At Comcast, the safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance. We are cooperating fully with St. Clair Shores Police as they investigate this matter."

Taugher is being held on a $200,000 bond and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

This makes the article so much funnier.

And why is that?  Personally I find the suggestion that the individual rode his bike there as being "funny" to be rather offensive, given that my bicycle has been my primary source of transportation for the last 3+ years.  Would it have been even more "funny" had he taken the bus? or simply walked?

I ride my bike a lot as well, and use it to get anywhere within a couple miles. But I have to admit, it doesn't exactly make the perfect getaway vehicle.

Given the offenders state of mind, I somehow seriously doubt he was even thinking in terms of "getaway vehicle".  He was clearly out of his skull at the very least.

Losers who happen to be in better shape than just about everyone else. People should be walking or riding bikes more imo. Hell, I smoke and eat a lot of fast food -- and I'm still in better shape than most people.

Also, I just want to point out that I do have a car. I just think that excercise and conserving gas is the best thing to do, whenever possible.

This simply doesn't work in the suburbs...at least the ones I live in.

I own two classic cars but don't have daily driver. Why? I don't drive daily. I walk, run or ride bike to work and I don't live in suburbia.

Why complain that you have fridge, 2.5 kids, 2 cars and manboobs and beer gut by 35 when you SIGNED UP for it yourself by moving to suburbia and NOT doing anything to remedy situation. You will also probably die of obesity or heart failure by the time you are 63.

If you fuckers are so stuck on yourseleves and your bikes that you cant see how depressingly ridiculous it is to ride your bike, drunk and 41 years old, down to the cable company office to complain about bad service then do us all a favor and remove yoursleves from the gene pool now.  Great you have bikes and you ride them.  Who fucking cares?

Yeah, if he'd been a big bald guy with 82 inch biceps and gravelly voice and totin a shotgun, and the bike in question was a Harley, not a Schwinn, it would've played out a lot better.

I just don't see how the bike makes any real difference. He'd be pathetic either way.

I'd say there's a good chance that he doesn't even ride a bike on most occassions -- Could be that he's just another fat fuck (people who go ballistic about their Cable TV service usually are), who has a car, but at this time it was broken down. Maybe he just got pissed enough to grab his kid's little BMX and pedal to Comcast's office.

edit: In other words, people who ride bikes on a regular basis usually don't give a shit when their cable goes down. You know what these people do when their TV's aren't working? They go out and ride their bikes! And not as a means, but as an ends in itself.

They always have something better to do.

The kind of guy who can't think of a better way to bide his time when his TV is down is more than likely a person who usually doesn't ride a bike. I doubt the bike was his primary mode of transportation and this just had something to do with the circumstances.
