New Eastern European-powered indie sandbox or Middle Ages Simulator: Ultima Online meets Minecraft meets Day Z meets Shadowbane.

Free terraforming and building, physics combat with aiming, free PvP with full loot, persistent housing, diplomacy and politics, free character progression with no level and stat caps like UO, insane amount of craftable things with extreme details and "realism". Private servers up to 64 people at the moment.

The feature list is impressive and while it is Early Access and, as expected, very very Alpha, it shows a surprising lot of amazing stuff. I was very skeptical when some friends told me it was already worth a look, but it definitely is if you cared about UO AND/OR if you are into survival games, or builder games, or sandbox in general.

I DO NOT suggest to buy the early access, but I'd definitely suggest to keep an eye on this. At the moment the combat is terrible and the UI gives you a headache, but it already shows the sheer amount of things you can do, build, craft, dig, harvest, kill, and the ways players can interact with each other in the "typically open" Day Z way (with voice).

Promo video.

Crafting minigames. (Which are optionals, you can use the automatic crafting option but it will yield less than the minigame).

Skills and stats.

EDIT: Typos.

Yeah, I noticed this on Steam a few days ago. Seems like it could turn out really nice or really terrible. I agree with the wait and see approach.

Private server is the only reason this comes close to interesting. So many features that will get dominated by 'free pvp with full loot'.

Why work on crafting? Kill crafters.

What Sky said. When this is fully a thing and we get an f13 server I might give it a shot.

Whenever I see "Open PvP", I think of free market competition.

This looks interesting. I believe this is extremely similar to Wyrm, but more advanced.

How is the swordfighting? People I played Warband & Darkfall with had hopes for this especially for the combat+physics engine being at the same level as those games.

The Steam reviews make me want to play this (but only on an F13 server).

Quote
Picked through dirt for roots to eat for 3 hours and barely stayed alive. Right clicked on an apple tree and picked enough appled in 30 seconds to last me for 2 days.

Spent 4 hours digging a hole to find ore, some guy came along and hit me over the head with a shovel and beat me to death then built a wheel barrow to haul away my ore.

Made myself a shovel then dug a tunnel under someones wall and got into their castle where i proceeded to eat all their food and steal their pants.

Same here. I'd play this solo or with you guys, but I have no interest in dealing with internet fuckwads.

I picked this up because of friends who like this sort of game. I will post my impressions of it after i get around to playing it.

Haven't done any combat yet, however the rest of the game is a direct rip off of that Wurm Online game from back in the day. Slow and shitty and grindy, only this game has a worse UI.

This is leaving Early Access, and becoming a "full" game, on November 17th. The new trailer has Sean Bean (his voice) in it.

EDIT: Check the karma system. Basically, player killers get it hard especially if they kill you after you have begged for mercy. Interesting.

I'm terribly suspicious of any game trailer that doesn't show actual gameplay.

I have no idea, but it would explain the Sean Bean money. This is clearly still messy (read: beta), but it's a really cool sandbox that lots of you old farts (like me) would probably love. Up to 64 players per server, and there's seem to be coop servers, although with no hoestile mobs to speak for, save for some wolves and bears, there's not much point in calling it PvE. Even the PvP ones seem to attract mostly RP people, so even the most aggressive players choose to coerce others into paying high taxes or give free slave labour instead of simply going on with the usual killing sprees.

The biggest criticism is that it is realy hard to "grind" and build alone. This really invites people to found community and settlements and pool efforts or nothing is ever gonna get built. A few days ago I logged on a new server and met a guy with no shirt and a shovel onhis back who was terraforming an area to start planting seeds. I told him I was new and he offered me food and shelter if I helped him working his field. That's the kind of stuff that is going on here.

40% off on Steam for "Midweek Madness". Also, big huge "launch patch" hit yesterday, overhauling the UI and beautifying the game. Seriously, check this out, it's a good and relaxing craft 'em up.

I'll end up buying it at the end of the year when they get some time to patch up the stuff. Also, I expect they will discount it again in the winter sale.

Progress in this is extremely slow. Too slow, even with the sliders to max out the speed of everything.

I see what you mean. Definitely meant as a "Miserable Medieval Life Simulator" and it does its job very well. Not just because it's slow, but because the crafting is very granular and the skill cap really wants to to have people specialize and pick one (not all) of the available medieval professions. But in general it's just that it is supposed to be played with others. I think I mentioned it somewhere up. It is in no way a soloable game, unlike 7 Days to Die for example. If you don't have friends, you are supposed to take to heart the life and the economy of the server you pick.
