Skinny-dippin' in a sea of Lee, I'd propose on bended knee...

Over at GameMethod.com, they have posted their impressions of the Nintendo Keynote Presentaton that kicked off day 4 of the GDC. While there was much talk of the DS which really bores me, there were some pieces of information concerning Nintendo's next-gen console, the Revolution. Iwata surprisingly provided details on the Revolution, beginning with the fact that the system will be backward compatible with the GameCube. Additionally, Wi-Fi connectivity will be native to every unit shipped. The system’s core processor, which has been developed with IBM, has been code-named “Broadway;” additionally, the graphics board, developed with ATI, has been code-named “Hollywood.” Iwata emphasized Nintendo’s commitment to cater to the development community in order to ease development for the new console; moreover, the company will expand its internal development teams to accommodate next generation development. The importance of third-party support was mentioned, interesting considering the company’s relative struggle with such relations during the course of the Nintendo 64 and GameCube.

The Gamecube was the one I least cared about being backwards compatible. This is interseting, but doesn't bode well for the revolution. Ridiculously proprietary for the lose. Wifi is no doubt for communication with the DS and whatever they bring out this fall. If he'd built a giant networks like Gates and Co. he would have pimped the hell out of it. Here's a select quote from his keynote: ONe of the titles being internally developed to support Wi-Fi gameplay is the highly anticipated Animal Crossing DS, which was recently named as one our most anticipated games of 2005 There's no doubt in my mind that it was selected as such because the DS lineup for games sucks right now and Animal Crossing is one fo the only announced good ones. Nintendo took the heart of the game, ripped it out, mutilated it with a melon baller, and peed on it. There was nothing in that keynote about the heart of anything. The passion of robots is more involved.

I'm wondering what the range is for that Wi-Fi...
So far what I'm hearing about Revolution interests me a lot. Thanks for the post, Shock.
