Early access is up on Steam - kickstarter backers go their key on Saturday.

I played this for a little bit, it's fun. It's a mission-based Metal Slug with crafting and online/local multiplayer.

This seems really cool, but it is 100% designed for a controller. At this point you cannot even rebind keys. I'm using this as an excuse to finally get a controller for my PC, but I can see someone being bummed with this game if they tried to make as serious go of it using keyboard.

Yeah, the lack of rebindable keys currently is a killer. I play on a 360 controller and it's great, but yeah - early alpha. It's fun, though!

I think PC gamers need to get a controller anyway.  I remember thinking KB+M was a terrible controller as far back as Stunts and I'm super-pleased that I can just plug one in now and have it work.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I wish I could just plug one in now and have it work, half the games I buy with "Controller support" don't recognize anything but the XBox one as existing.

This. I've been using a PS2 controller (via a USB converter) for the past ten years on my PC, and it's getting to the point where more and more games aren't recognizing it.

I now have a controller, and this game is much, much more enjoyable. The crafting is sort of cool, but its not the reason to buy the game. If you like Metal Slug and have a controller, I would say its an easy get now. I think it has potential to get even better as it develops further.

I hope you don't get offended when I say that you're being ridiculous in expecting a ten-year-old solution to work in a modern computing environment without some amount of work.  I have a collection of controllers from Ages Past but I bought a wired MS 360 one for my PC rather than fuck around with that bullshit.  The wired one works better than the MS wireless one, in fact, and it is cheaper.

On the other hand, I'd like more PC games to support pads, no question there.  Although it depends on the game and the design, since either consciously or sub-, the designer builds to whatever interface he is planning to use.  Terraria works great with a pad but there are tons of games that wouldn't fit at all.

Most PS2 USB controller adapter dealies are bog standard USB HID devices and should Just Work (tm).

Sadly there's a trend in lazy PC game development to only support the xbox360 controller (Bastion was guilty of this).  I ended up saying fuck it and buying a 360 controller, but it's still pretty obnoxious and I miss my dualshock2.  Windows has perfectly good game controller / joystick support...

They added keyboard remapping via a config file in the latest update.

It still sucks to play with the keyboard, but it sucks less now, at least.
