So, on a whim I went to an early screening at a local festival, because why not? Should at least provide some fun mindless action. It turns out that this thing is the best action movie I've seen in the last, oh, 5 years or so. It's basically Apocalypse Now in a world where the government builds super soldiers on a regular basis, with JCVD playing an awesome Colonel Kurtz. The movie leaves some ambiguity in who the good guys or the bad guys are (or whether there are any good guys at all) and nicely plays with the psychology of being a mind controlled killing machine. For the genre, there's quite a bit of thought behind it. As for the thing that draws people into the movie in the first place, the fight scenes are excellently choreographed and often very gory. I'd recommend seeing the 3D version if you get the chance, as the movie makes unusually good use of it. Van Damme is playing the same guy he played in the previous movies, just quite a bit of time later. Whether he is evil is arguable.

Cironian's description was a lot cooler sounding than that trailer. It looked b-level straight-to-DVDBluRayitunesNetflix

Oh, I am not disputing that it's a B-movie. It most definitely is. I thought that was kind of clear from the title. But it's an awesome B-movie, if you are the kind of person who likes that.

Are you really expecting the people on this forum to even remotely be able to enjoy a good B movie?
I gave up years ago, the neck-beard is strong here.

Hey, I still enjoy Nemesis, and it's one of the B-est B movies around.

I think the thing that turns me off about this movie is changing the character to a villain. They'd have to have a really good reason for doing it. It'd be like in the last Raiders movie if Indy was suddenly working for the Nazis. (Ok, terrible example I know but it was the first thing that came to mind.) I'm a pretty big fan of these movies and I don't like the idea of this change in the character at all.
