Dirty Bomb: London Bridge Gameplay

Quote
We’ve released a brand-new gameplay video showing pre-alpha multiplayer footage from the pre-alpha version of Dirty Bomb. Be sure to watch that now and let us know what you like, and want to see more of!

We’re also launching a Founders Club for fans wanting priority access to the Closed Beta, exclusive in-game content, cool swag, and public recognition for their support. You can check out our Founder’s Club page for more information. If you want to make an even greater pledge of support, consider joining our Inner Circle.

Around a year ago, just before we started work on Dirty Bomb, Anti and I put some effort in to defining our core philosophy on making a brand-new dedicated PC shooter. For those of you that don't know, Anti was once a top Tribes player, then joined us as a Production Tester on Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, was Associate Producer for three years, and is now Designer on Dirty Bomb.

We believe competitive multiplayer team-play is more thrilling than single-player. We believe in fulfilling players by advancing their actual skill. We believe in long-term player engagement, developing games that are played for months and years. We believe in competitive games as a service, and we’re dedicated to the perfection of team-play.

We have a decade of critically acclaimed multiplayer releases and commercial successes, but we must learn from our big mistakes too. We have titles that were played for years, and some with player bases that decayed in months. We’ve demonstrated our dedication to multiplayer team-play, and proven our focus on engaging our fans, but not every title was the perfect team game. We have achieved a loyal, influential and engaged fan base, and they’re not afraid to tell us what they think, and we’re committed to do better, for them. For Dirty Bomb on PC, we have complete control: we’re the financier, developer, publisher, distributor, and retailer.

Dirty Bomb must provide a balanced playing field and a fair contest, challenging players, against or alongside real people. Players should only succeed by competing in battles where skill and tactics alone determine the winners, be it as an individual, group of friends, or team. Players should always understand why they won or lost, or by being part of a social community that shares knowledge, continually learn from other player’s skills, and achieve status and recognition for their own credible successes and contributions.

Some of our established community members are already in our Inner Circle playing Dirty Bomb nightly with the development team. We’ll soon start a Closed Alpha, and when ready, a Closed Beta. Players who sign-up will have a voice, help sculpt what the game becomes, and ensure our focus on areas important to them.

We believe players should not have to pay for the core game when it launches. Even now, you can also sign up for free, for a chance to be invited as we gain capacity.

Kinda underwhelmed. Looks like a combination of COD's shooting/smaller level design with the utility/kit stuff from BF3 and pseudo-nearfuture weaponry.

The YouTube comments are illustrative.

I hope they work on the feeling of the shooting, that was my main problem with Brink.

I don't understand why anyone would be excited about this at all.

I think I'm probably one of like six people on Earth who really, really loved Brink.

There's nothing in that video that I can see that interests me.  I suspect that's by design (given the "we learned from our mistakes" bit), but still annoys me.  I guess at least it's objective based, but otherwise, it looks like a step back to me, from what they're showing there.

Yeah, I actually liked Brink as well.  It was buggy on launch, fair enough, but I thought the gameplay was actually pretty damned good.  I still wonder what could have been if they had released with the game as it existed about a month after launch.  It still wouldn't have been a hit, but there were loads of people who quit after the first weekend because the thing was so buggy as to be actually unplayable for people.   It might have had a chance at keeping a small but big enough community.

There were the people who wanted more COD like shooting mechanics as well, and it seems like they are going for Brink but with more mainstream shooting mechanics this time around, which might be decent, but I can't say I am particularly excited about it at this point.  Especially with Natural Selection 2 already out and kicking, my session based/objective based shooter itch is well scratched.

They just went into open beta a couple days ago. I'm kinda enjoying it. It's nice when you have 20 minutes and want to shoot people.

I keep meaning to play it, but the lack of bots has really hammered my interest.

Dev: "It's a skill based game!  You'd better know what you're doing or you'll drag down your team and your teammates will suffer!"
Me: "Cool, I love teamwork heavy games, where can I practice so that I'm not a complete drag on my team?"
Dev: "There's all these classes you'll have to get the hang of and objective based maps to learn!  Complex!"
Me: "Yeah, complexity is great, but how do I learn it? Aside from 'you lost, good luck figuring out why'?"
Dev: "... well, my work here is done!  BAZOOM!"

Really annoys me when devs do this.  Bots are not new tech, guys.

I'll probably give it another shot one of these days, but who knows.  I played the tutorial and it seemed decent, but that's the extent I've seen so far.

I just don't understand why we have tutorials to teach us WASD/ctrl/shift/aim 20+ years after that has been standard.  Does the tutorial expand to the different maps?

What is it like 70% of all League of Legends games are vs. bots? People do not like losing to other people.

My thoughts on the game so far...

Attackers generally have a HUGE advantage.
Players with high lag have a huge advantage. They skip all over the place and are impossible to hit. (I'm guessing a lot of them are dropping packets on purpose)
Play to the fucking OBJECTIVE. 3/4 of the team seems to just want team deathmatch.
It's funny to watch competitive play because it is so potato quality then.
and Attackers have a HUGE advantage on most maps.

Why does this dev make the same game over and over, just with a different skin every time? Fifth time's the charm?

I think I like the stopwatch mode better. Gives you both defense and attack on the same map.

Why do the cars all have steering wheels on the wrong side? Is this what caused the apocalypse?

The first time was the charm, that's the problem.
