A few pets can only be purchased in Horde cities from Horde merchants, like snakes and roaches. Same with Alliance pets like cats and owls.

However, since goods can be traded between Alliance and Horde characters via the Gadgetzan auctionhouse, you can set up trades at specific times and buy out pets from the other faction. This offers a nice trade markup, too.

I put roaches and snakes up in the Gadgetzan auctionhouse and they were being bought out for three gold a piece. Apparently cats and rabbits sell better, because they are cuter and not cockroaches or snakes.

If you haven't seen it in your server before, you can make a character for the opposing faction, trade your new character your faction's pets, then go to the capital cities and sell them on the trade channels for a good markup, then trade the cash back into the hands of your real character.

Or if you just want a pet for yourself, you can use a low alliance character to earn 40 silver, buy the pet, and trade it to your awaiting character via Gadgetzan. Or even set up a trade with an alliance character via alt or the boards.

I'm sure some or maybe all of you already know this, but it depends on the server, so I thought I'd just throw it out.

It's in the Tanaris zone in Southern Kalimdor.

Lol.

Anyway, that's pretty nice to know. When I get to that zone I'll try this as I'm really getting into trading on the AH and this sounds like a good little earner. Nice idea.

That is all.

It would be fun if pets had an actual game mechanic benefit to having one.   I shelled out some silver for a cockroach which followed me around and looked cool and all, but in the end went to the bank because I wanted my inventory slot back.   (Inventory being a precious commidity for the Warlock on the go.)

I believe the pet is capped at level 35 though.

So do the pets level?

My parrot from the Deadmines is level 1, but the pirates used ones that were 14.

If it's possible to use my dread parrot of doom in an actual combat role, instead of just a decoration I run around town with, that would be cool.

Witty banter not included.

No, for all non-pet classes there a few very specific items that can summon a sort of pet to help you attack. The one linked can only be summoned for 10 minutes every hour and by the time you get it you've probably already out leveled its usefullness. You parrot is nothing more than decoration. Sort of like the collectors edition pets but not as cool looking.

I hear there are a few high level and/or rare pets that while still not active in a combat role, give bonuses simply by being deployed.  I've never seen one, though.  I take their existence dubiously, but it seems interesting if true.

That's what it said in the strategy guide, but I've not seen one... ...maybe it's a rare loot from higher level instance or something... ...or not yet implemented in game...

I'm just going to assume its a NE love slave that polishes the owner's e-peen. That would cater to the player type. IT GIVES +10 TO EGO!

My chicken dies when I have it walk over a fire.  So far, it's my favorite pet.

It also tanks the giant she-bitch in Uldaman(sp).

There's also a worg which is a pet that lets you advertise your uberness, considering it's a level 59 quest which requires you to be in blackrock spire. For myself i've got a maine coon (which gets language filtered, go figure) and tell people I'm training to be a hunter (orc warrior).

Gadgetzan, on my server, rarely has more than 20 items on it in total. I've noticed some people trying to sell cockroaches and snakes (horde pets) but I suspect their sales are negligible. Cats sell though.

I'm pretty sure you may not bid on an item that another toon on the same account has put up for auction.

So I don't think you can make an Alliance toon, buy a pet, and put it up in the Gadgetzan AH for your Horde toon.
