I am currently downloading so I cannot give any direct feedback but it looks interesting. Its a full conversion of Crysis (vanilla) that just entered "beta". http://www.moddb.com/mods/mechwarrior-living-legends/videos/mwll-beta-release-trailerWill you be a living legend or a forgotten casualty? MechWarrior:Living Legends (MWLL) is a total conversion modification for Crysis, MWLL is at its very core a mix between First Person Shooter and Simulation. This will be achieved through the use of a mixed arms massively multiplayer gaming experience where the player takes part in a battle using a variety of vehicles and weapons MWLL is using the concepts pioneered by the “Battlefield” franchise and more recently Crysis, of a sandbox feel where you get to play what you want and how you want it. MWLL depicts the epic struggles between the two factions of Battletech “The Clans” and “The Inner Sphere” In the project we will be bringing some of the legends of MechWarrior back to life. And for the torrent. Slightly over 1.44 gigs with tons of seeds. http://www.thelivinglegends.net/downloads/Mechwarrior%20Living%20Legends.torrent

You play the part of a surprised fan when Smith & Tinker foxes this project before it's finished.

You can be in mechs, battle armor, aerofighters, vtols and vehicles (both conventional and scifi hover types).
The mod's art direction throws me off a bit from what I used to seeing being depicted in Battletech art but it's growing on me and I'm overjoyed to have a new battlemech game being created (even if it is just beta).

OP is assuming its somewhat of a design-goal of eve to make players happy. this is however not the case.

Man, that trailer is Winter08? And even with that delay this hasn't been tanked by the powers that refuse to let good battletech games be made?

It is officially endorsed by MS.

MS has been pretty liberal with their MW license since the day they released the source code for Mechcommander 2. Let's not jinx the moment.

Are you sure? I thought Smith & Tinker was paying cash moneys for the license, seems bizarre that MS would give it away for free to a modding team.

Pretty sure. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49121In a move that will no doubt bring light to understandably joyless PC BattleTech fans, Microsoft, owner of the MechWarrior license, has granted the MechWarrior: Living Legends mod team the legal clearance to use assets and properties drawn from the BattleTech universe (thanks Landrosradick).
In other words, Microsoft has okayed a fan-created MechWarrior game. Seeing as Cease & Desist orders from property holders are a very common and real threat for mod teams, the Living Legends team has, essentially, dodged a major bullet.
All the more exciting, and at the same time disheartening, is the fact that Living Legends is a mod currently in development for Crytek's upcoming PC shooter Crysis. On the upside, it will most likely look really, really pretty. On the downside, that means that the team has yet to get their hands on the actual code, and with such mods being voluntary free-time projects, it could be a few years out.

Wasn't there another mod that had the blessing and thumbs-up from the IP holder right up to the day they got nuked in a sudden 180 by the IP holder?

Im sure it has happened, permission can be revoked on a whim. Especially when multiple companies own pieces of the IP. I recall something similar happening with Shadowrun but I believe they eventually got permission from MS after the cease and desist notice. But I cant seem to find it anywhere.
When this mod is complete it will be amazing.

No, it was a Western IP. Something big, I think. Aliens, or Warhammer 40k or something like that. Since you brought it up, I do remember the CT one happening as well. Anyway, good luck to them, but since it appears that they don't have the source code for Crysis yet from one of the links, and it might be 4 years or so away, I'll file this away in the "oh yeah, I remember that" section of my memory and get back to it when it's released, is quietly cancelled in x years, mutates completely like Red Orchestra did, or starts to pull a Team Gizka.

lol, actually, I did, but you said "first beta" (which I misremembered as alpha anyway) and the Shacknews post said they didn't have the full source yet. My fault, I didn't notice the SN link was dated 2007.

One of the artists on MWLL secretly works at BioWare Edmonton.
He was doing that before he was hired.

Yeah. Space Hulk. These guys. http://www.teardown.se/forum/showthread.php?t=603It looks like they re-branded it into "alien assault". I need to re-play it.

Crysis is the Steam sale today, so if the mod interests you and you haven't picked up Crysis yet, now is a good time.
|
Hahahaha! I'm really good at this!

The mod is more impressive than most professional titles. The beta is almost enough to justify the price of a "real" game. I never played through Crysis so im not sure what i can attribute to the mod or the core game. But as a jaded hater gamer I am impressed in all areas, 6 months of polish and I would pay 30-40$. If you are even vaguely interested in the franchise buy Crysis for 15$ and give it a try.

Has anyone gotten this to work with the Steam version of Crysis? Where do I need to put which files; it's just a .rar and not an .exe, and I'm unfamiliar with how mods work with Crysis.
Also, the installation instructions on their site suck.

Unrar all the files somewhere. You should see a directory structure with Mods\mwII
Go to your Steam\steamapps\common\crysis directory. If you don't already have a Mods directory in the crysis directory just move the entire Mods\mwII structure over to there. Otherwise just put the mwII directory in your existing Mods directory.

Too bad the game crashes whenever I try to go online with it; crashes right when I enter Gamespy ID nonsense...Who the hell uses that crap anymore, anyway?
