Anyone got any hints/tips other than don't do it in your living room?

Also, looking for a good recipe for injection sauce, if anyone has a good one.

be very very careful.  most people do it outdoors well away from the house.  Sorry I can't help more than that...

Be sure it isn't frozen.  Ohhhhh, I see.

Yeah, my buddy that has done a couple told me to "dry it the fuck off".  I'm assuming he's had issues with that.

I whipped up a bit of a homemade injection

1/2 cup butter
2 tbsp kosher salt
2 tbsp black pepper
2 tbsp white pepper
2 tbsp garlic powder
1/4 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp brown sugar

I'll let you know how it goes  why so serious?

Read from here for a page or so. Ignore the stuff about Native Americans:

I'd recommend stirring the oil a bit before putting the turkey in, too.  One problem is super-heating the oil.  Basically it gets above boiling, but because of a lack of convective currents it heats up past it.  Then when the liquid is disturbed, all the boiling which should have happened does so at once.  *fwoosh*

Just be careful with the stirring, too.  Don't put your face, or body parts, over the oil in case insertion of the stirrer acts as a seed.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Derail! Same thing happens when you heat water up in the microwave. Be very careful!

I have a small scar on my arm from learning that the hard way when making agarose gels.

TURN OFF the flame at the time of turkey insertion.

This sounds like a terribly good idea.  I'm glad you mentioned it, because I wouldn't have.

Okay.  So finished it up and everything went smooth.  No burning down the house or any disasters at all, really.

The above recipe was pretty good.  Not too spicy and gave a hint of flavor.  If you want something more flavorful I would try something else, though.  As compared against a regular turkey it was much more juicy and tender- and the other one was damned good.
