Saw this last night. Ok disclaimer, I went to school and was really good friends with the guy who wrote the books that this is based on. We actually share the same sirname in real life, though we are not directly related.

I really really enjoyed this movie. This is not a standard teen Buffy or Twilight vamp flick with heaving, longing looks over long distances. This is a movie with lots of action, a protagonist that's actually that not annoying, a senior vamp that's brilliantly played with just the right amount of cynicism, and the hints of the background world they give are good. The story is solid, and the 2 people that were with me, both adults, really really enjoyed it. The woman said its the first film she has been at in a long while where she did not dare go to the bathroom in case she missed something.

If you are looking for an actually decent Vampire flick with very little romance, then you really could do a lot worse than check this out.

Interesting; the trailers looked dire so I had discounted it.

No offense against Dewey Cox but if he isn't playing some redneck or caveman role I cock my head in wonder. He has charisma for looking like a Neanderthal, I'll give him that.

I liked SirT's use of 'sirname'. I know it's a typo but that's kind of a neat phrase. Also you made the film sound interesting, it'll get consideration if I'm heading out to the cinema any time soon.

I get a giggle every time I see Reilly as the vamp, dressed like some weirdo clown version of Prince. I can't take the movie seriously because of that.

I honestly thought this was a Twilight spoof movie.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

Wow, this flick absolutely died at the box office. Had an opening weekend of like $6 million on about 2700 screens. As of it's third weekend it's laying dead at 17th place with $12m grosses against a $40m budget.

I quit judging a movie by its numbers a long time ago because I realized that most of the people on this planet are morons that don't have shit for taste or imagination.

Edit: I didn't mean for that to appear like you were judging the movie based on its numbers, only your post lit off that train of thought.

I thought this movie was a spoof as well, the fact that it might be serious offends me.

The advertising for this movie was atrocious.  It really makes the movie look like something with an uproariously high unintentional comedy quotient.

Yeah. When they release on that many screens and blow it THAT hard, it basically means the marketing was total shit irrespective of the quality of the movie itself. It's not a word-of-mouth flop where it does okay for a day or a weekend and then tanks, it's a "this movie was almost totally overlooked" flop, which points squarely at the advertising.

Yeah, the only reason I knew this wasn't a spoof/ comedy movie is I'd heard an interview with Riley somewhere.  He talked up how it was a "Male Vampire movie" not one of those 'sissy girly vampires' like have been coming out lately.   That alone intrigued me.. but for some reason I thought it was coming out later this month.  I didn't realize it was already out and dying.

To be fair, some of that is because he was appearing in a traveling freak circus when first seen, and he wears outlandish clothes as part of the troupe. In his words, he's a vaudevillian or is trying to be.

And it does have some comedy in it, but its due to good acting and the fact the director lets the characters bounce off one another with a half decent script.

The fact that its out and dying makes me really really angry/sad. I'll admit, the only reason I went was because of my connection to the books author. I really was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.

Subpar Harry Potter / Twilight rip-off trying to cash in on the vampire meme in kids while leaving it open for other "monstrous" interpretations using the Cirque name. That's what I got out of the advertisements.

The ads are fucking dreadful. I can't imagine them making ANYONE want to see the movie. It truly looks like a mixture of "DEWEY COX, GAY VAMPIRE" and "HARRY BLOODSUCKER AND THE BOGWARTS!" There's a reason this movie is dead on arrival, because it looks like Epic Movie threw up a Twilight spoof.

I am still having trouble believing this flick is not a spoof from the ads. Whoever put that campaign together needs to find a new career.

To be fair, it's not like this movie is some hidden gem that got overlooked because of a bad marketing campaign.  Sir T aside, this movie was pretty much universally panned.
