Chinese developers focussed primarily on the PC market and used direct download, rather than retail stores, to get games to consumers. I guess market will tolerate only that much of shitting in the box, slapping DRM on it and asking people to pay for it year after year. 3 installs and dead? Ya, fuck you.

I think they confused Chinese and Korean in the article. I haven't heard about any game development going on in China, have you?
