I'm hesitant to post this just because it seems pretty unlikely, but apparently MS and EA stocks have jumped slightly based on rumors going around that MS is looking to buy EA.  I can't really see it happening (and don't think it would be good for the industry if it did happen), but the rumor is getting a lot of attention at the moment.

Edit: Replaced linked article with a slightly better one.

The bloodbath in the EA executive level would be glorious. MS obviously fucks things up themselves, but EA is a special kind of evil.

If there was anything I could do to help this happen, I'd be on it super fast.

This is a match made in heaven, imo. Hilarious heaven.

If this were to happen, I could at least look forward to the inevitable cancellation of both SWOTR and WAR. Or at the very least, the chat boxes breaking in both games.

I do not think this acquisition has anything to do with the Wii. Microsoft is totally anemic and hurting for developers. EA spent too much and made too goddamn little.

Like I said, match made in heaven.

Too bad EA has like, oh, one great dev team (too much credit to Bioware Edmonton?) and another up and comer (Visceral or whatever that made Dead Space).

Edit: Also, this is a grab at the Rock Band pie, OBVIOUSLY.

EA Sports is still a decent cash cow too, no?

If EA isn't making enough money, the 360/etc exclusivity would damned well make sure that they start making even less money.

It would be darkly amusing to see the PS3/Sony and Wii/Ninty left with no officially licenced NFL games for the next 20 or however-many years though.  why so serious?

Fun while that lasted. Shares down again. Enjoying a correction.

This wasn't really plausible to begin with. The last few hours merely proved just how jumpy the market is these days.

Stock goes up 7% and down just over 1%. I see what they did there.

Oh dangit, too bad, this would have been fun to watch!

I really wish they'd have sent that guy into the Madden dev team and the NFL licensing folks to dickstomp the guys who decided to give EA exclusive NFL rights.
