Dystopia is a HL2 team shooter. Loosely based on shadowrun. Basically there are physical objectives (capturing an area etc) and cyberspace objectives (disabiling a force field, commandeering turrets). These objectives are generally synergistic so you must co-ordinate your deckers (hackers) with your assault force to accomplish many thing. There are 3 classes of soldiers light, medium and heavy. With 5 weapon choices per class. In addition to weapon choice there is also "implants" ranging from a radar scanner to a stealth field to IF vision. I highly recommend to give it a go its an awesome game. Its also available and free via STEAM. http://www.dystopia-game.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

I tried this a year or two and really couldn't get into it. Has the game changed any since then?

I got into it back during the beta or whatever, don't recall why I quit, though. I remember having a ton of fun.

While i just recently discovered this game I am under the impression it just received a massive upgrade. The learning curve is a bit steep and the maps are a pain the ass to "figure out" when first starting. But well worth the effort.

I remember now why I quit playing. During cyberspace I recall encountering some supremely frustrating bullshit during fights with other "hackers" that made me rage-quit. I seem to remember being unbelievably pissed off at macros or some shit becoming prevalent, making combat between hackers twice as annoying, particularly considering how disorienting the cyberspace layout could get with people on the floors, walls and ceilings.

I suck balls at decking and i tend to be able to kill as much as i get killed. Very rarely do encounter a player who can just stomp the piss out of me. I tend to ignore the various "dimensions" and just stay on a single plane while sniping.
The alternate cyberspace attack absolutely destroys them at close range. The one that is a constant beam of energy.

This is fun, the learning curve is a bit of a bitch though and the weapons aren't designed that well but I like the stealth and stealth countermeasures. Its almost nice that I don't have enough well-placed keys on my kb to bind everything i need because the implants play such a key role.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

The SMT (sonar type deal) is an awesome implant. Functions in such a cool way. And surprising a majority of the weapons are useful once you master their gimmicks.

I personally think the weapons are well designed, but then again I have been playing this, for almost forever and I very rarely deviate from the assault rifle.

I enjoyed it for a while but got bored very quickly. It was too repetitive even tho I enjoyed the setting and general design.
Ion Cannon + Sprint + Fatman's fist = win
