My point was that you've never needed uber buffs to pve.

But you will need active support classes to heal etc (who will play in the new zones for aurelite or whatever it's called). Active support classes can provide adequate buffs for pve.

Only thing you really need a buffbot for is rvr, and then you need about one for every four members of your group. An active guild will provide that if you don't feel like paying the extra.

The mechanic sucks, but has no particular effect on Catacombs.

A friend of mine used to PvE with a buffbot shaman. He would do all his own healing with the bot. You are right in that it's not so much the buffs as the healing, but he didn't need an active healer in that game. Sure, some very difficult group encounters might. But most solo stuff in DF and ToA were soloable by a player with a buffbot that had heal spells.
