Hey mang, you jumped the queu. I'm number twenty seven thousand one hundred and three.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

I made it to 900 before the page froze up and I had to refresh. After seeing I was at 18000, I decided to head home for the day, where I am at 24k right now. Its going nice and fast though, I started at 30k about 10 minutes ago.

Wow, I got down to 10k in about 10 minutes, and have since reach 6500.

Played it a while ago. It's Quake. It's fun, but it's Quake. Well, really, Quake 3. But yea, you know what I'm getting at.

Site is painfully horrible. Is there a CTF gameplay type?

I've been in the beta for a month or two and playing a couple nights a week.  I'm a huge Quake fan and this does not disappoint.  I'll be playing this for a very long time.

The queue tonight sucks.

MFers let me download the fucking software and play the fucking tutorial before you stick me in the fucking queue (at 13K even at this hour).

Edit: oh that's fucking great, why didn't you ask me for the verification code before you stuck me in the fucking queue?

Edit: FUUCCKKK it put me back in the queue after installing the installer, and it hasn't even downloaded the full game yet.

This is supposed to be easier than playing a standalone game?

Edit: now the queue isn't moving swamp poop

Edit: sweet mother, the queue is moving again after logging in and out multiple time (and the fucker still won't save my login info). Maybe now I'll be able to actually install the software. I dread to think how many more times I'll be put into the queue before I can actually play the fucking game.

Instructions on how to set the refresh rate in full screen mode:

http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11294

For some reason it won't let you go higher than 85 Hz (tried 100 and 120) but that's far better than the headache inducing default of 60 Hz.

Edit: okay it looks like it's setting full screen to 1600x1200 by default which is why my refresh rate won't go higher. I added a few more lines to autoexec.cfg to lower the full screen res and boost the refresh rate to 120:

r_mode -1
r_customwidth "1024"
r_customheight "768"
r_displayRefresh "120"

I got in and played a bit, remembering that I am very bad at Quake 3.

It's Quake 3 and it's fun, and it's great what they can stick in a browser these days. But I recalled why I played Q3 so briefly, specially in comparison to Unreal Tournament, and why I forgot about both afterwards.

Imo BF1942 killed off traditional Quaking. I always hated the way people played Quake (we had a rabid LAN group here, it's where I got my fps skillz), and when BF1942 came out and catered to a non-spastic crowd, it was  Heart

Of course, that has changed, but meh. I'll go shoot some squirrels.

All hail traditional Quaking!  I guess I'm a spastic mofo but I've been waiting for my Quake replacer since the Quake 4 community failed to grow into anything really interesting.  I'm hoping the fact this is free and can be played in a browser actually brings in the players.  Now all we need is Id to convert some of the original Quake1 DM maps over to Qlive.  Especially Ultraviolence and DM3.

Quake is God. The lord of transparency. Fuck that semi-"realistic" crap. awesome, for real

This worked pretty well. Don't know about now, but it did back in beta. Used to have lunch break duke-outs at the office.

It's certainly Quake 3, just with a more polished interface and the blood removed for magical sparkles.

The match balancing feature I think fucked me. I know how to do all of the tricks of the trade in Quake 3 for movement so I got sent to advanced level for the bot-match you have to do, and since bots are hilariously predictable I owned the bot. I got my face raped off in my first few actual matches.

Seems like there's a fairly wide berth of skill levels for each of the actual levels. I only made it to advanced (even going back I couldn't figure out how to take it to that final door), and only did moderately well against the bot. Seems like I'm probably on an intermediate level, which fits since I don't have that great of FPS skills. As it is though, one match "on level" I'll wipe the floor with, the next I'll get trampled. My most recent I got killed by my on team more often than by the opponents...

Definately going to be playing during the down time at work now.

I actually had a really good experience so far, aside from the massive 40000 person queue I hit yesterday (yes, literally 40k+ queue).  However, I went on about an hour ago and had maybe a 20 person queue, which was just 2 minutes or so, and very tolerable for Quake 3 for free.

The skill level match against Crash was more or less boring, but I think it actually did manage to get my skill right. (I got to the advanced portal, incidentally, if that makes a difference).  Anyway, i went into a skill matched game after that and had very good competition.  i never actually won any map, but I was near the top in every game, and felt like the top 3-4 people on the server were about at or slightly above my skill level, which made for intense and fun action.

I've always said Quake 3 was the best pure death match game I've played, and if this brings it back into the mainstream a bit and can give me consistent similar skill level players to play against, I'm all for it.  Even if they don't rid it of queues all together, still worth it IMO.

Quake1 DM maps over to Qlive.  Especially Ultraviolence and DM3.

Believe it or not this queue is bringing a smile to my face 3 days later.  This many people want to play Quake3?!  Fuck yes!

I really hope this means Qlive has a long, beautiful future.  However, I want to frag some mother fuckers... right now!
