In addition to Hard Rock Hallelujah is the Arockalypse.
Listening to Lordi makes me want to cut the sleeves of my t-shirt and ride around in a 80's model t-top TransAm.
Edit: Actually, Arockalypse isn't the name of the song. I'll be back with the real name later.

For something clean cut poppy and a little new new wave, there's The bird and the bee. You might want to check out The Ting Tings as well.
For something with a reggae feel, Michael Franti and Spearhead is good.

I've heard a little Enslaved before. Riffs on that last band are pretty cool.
I'm also interested in the groups that are actually more folk than metal... can't think of one atm though. Almost qualifies as world music though.

If you remember some, let me know, I'd be very interested in hearing them. I like alot of neo-folk, but none of it really has much metal influence that I've heard.

It says a lot that I don't speak a word of German (or latin) and I still listen to this Most of my music isn't in English, I know the words and don't know what they mean. Personally, I think the world would be better off if people broadened their horizons a bit. Also, for the OP - Maximum the Hormone. Japanese Band. Get any of it.

Korpiklaani's earlier stuff might meet that. they have become more metal with recent albums. Ulver's classic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kveldssanger might be up your alley. if you like enslaved, have you checked out the newer Nachmystium? their past 2 albums and ep are heading into psychadelic black metal or something like that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nachtmystiumcheck out Instinct Decay or Black Meddle Part 1 (pink floy reference ftw) oh also Wolves in the Throne Room fyi wolves and nach are both american bands. *edit* to the OP Townes Van Zandt Steve Earl newer Emmy Lou Harris (specifically Red Dirt Girl, or Wrecking Ball) Jesu (Godflesh frontmans Justin K Broadricks *new* band, shoegazer type stuff) Camera Obscura (great english indie rock what have you with female vocals) Tegan and Sarah (great indie rock, and not the annoying kind... plus they are twins... and hot... and Lesbians ) Minor Threat Dead Kennedys Seven Seconds album The Crew Infected Mushroom - psych trance from isreal and if you want something to play now and then that will make people say "holy mother of god what is that you are playing stop stop before you destroy the world" anything by one of these bands Origin Aanal Nathrakh Berzerker or some german power noise: Winterkalte

Hate to hijack someone else's thread, but I didn't want to start another. I love the sound of the Battlefield Bad Company menu music (Milt Buckner - The Beast). A lot of his stuff is impossible to find, but if anyone could suggest anything like that, I'd really appreciate it.

So I'm changing the title of this thread so that it can just become a place for us to ask for and make music recommendations. And here's a couple of recommendations of my own: If you haven't heard of The Streets, you should give it a listen. It's an english dude named Mike Skinner and it's got a good feel to it. The song I linked is my favorite from his latest album, Everything is Borrowed. Also, Lost from Chloe day is pretty good. Her stuff is kind of electronic/industrial/goth, and I think I got her from someone on these forums a year or two ago.

So - I see what everyone else is doing here, and I'm going to be lazy, group of friends and I came up with lists of 30 songs we would want to have with us on a desert island. Just saying these are songs I probably wouldn't get tired of hearing for a long time. edit (Wow - this is like a year old list, I'm sure I would make a few changes like the Marky Mark and Katrina and the waves right now - ok - I did change a few.)
1. Hallejula - Maybe the Buckley cover. Depends on the day. KD Lang does this beautify as well. And Leonard has that haunting voice. 2. Famous Blue Raincoat - Lenard Cohen Tori Amos Leonard 3. Count your money - Crazy 8's 4. Landslide - Smashing Pumpkins 5. Prince - Erotic City 6. Styx - Lady 7. Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver 8. Johnny Cash - Hurt 9. Beach Boys - God only Knows (Not the version with Brian in lead.) 10. Peter Murphy - I'll Fall with Your Knife 11. Adam and the Ants - Wonderful 12. Toto - Africa 13. Katrina and the Waves - Walking on SunshineBob Marley - No woman no cry. 14. Queen / Bowie - Under Pressure 15. Almost Irish - Ceann 16. Phantom of the Opera - Think of Me & Angel of Music 18. Weepies - World Spins Madly On. 19. Greg Brown - Who woulda thunk it 20. Jimmy Buffett - The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful 21. Highwayman - The Highwaymen 22. Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis or Thunderbird 23. Marky Mark - Good Vibrations (One of those songs that just makes me smile and laugh) CCR - Fortunate Son (Can I get a Sweet Home Alabama Backer with this from Skynard?) 24. Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf 25. Fairytale of NY - Pogues (Probably some version with Kate Melau) 26. Tear you apart - She Wants Revenge 27. With or without you - U2 28. Summer's Cauldron - XTC 29. Heaven (candlelight version) - DJ sammy 30. Close to me - Cure

I'm also interested in the groups that are actually more folk than metal... for folk/metal i tentatively recomend Opeth they have a lot of folksy acousticy stuff mixed in with their metal. you might like.

Volumen CeroMy friend grew up with these dudes in California, and they're starting to catch on out there. I'm not a big fan of Spanish music, but I really like these guys. This is probably their most popular song.

Elizium by Fields of the Nephilim is my favourite album of all time.
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd runs it a close second.

Animals is my favorite Floyd album. Les Claypool did a pretty amazing cover of the entire album live. It was nice having a great bass player on those tracks.
