Interesting. Hopefully it leads to something besides trying to replace everyone's bone marrow. If you thought the drugs were expensive...  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

Hmm, so if I get all of my bone marrow replaced I do not have to wear condoms ever again?

Why must god make these decisions so difficult.

I gather that getting your bone marrow replaced nips a bit.

My clinical experience is in peds heme/onc (blood-based cancers in children) where I worked on a bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit.  There are a number of reasons why this kind of work hasn't gained more attention.  First, you have to nearly kill someone prior to a bone marrow transplant during the process of bone marrow ablation.  Second, a heterologous BMT carries all sorts of risks due to complications from rejection.  If you should happen to survive both of these things AND not die from pneumonia or a systemic fungal infection, you still have to get your wbc (white blood cell) counts to rebound.  Then there's the whole issue of having any protective mutation take.

Yes, it's a very exciting sign that gene therapy may be a possibility in the treatment for HIV.  Sadly, it's also a reminder of just how much we're still in the stone age when it comes to treating autoimmune disorders and cancer.

Thank you for posting this.  I'm going to keep my eye on what this develops into.

Teh Herpes and syphilis would still necessitate condom usage with even your cleanest Asian whores.. so no luck there.
