Anyone else find it funny that you now have to wait in a queue if there are too many people on your server when you want to log in? Hell, at least Fileplanet gives you an estimated wait time. Blizzard just tells you you are number 41 and the wait is unknown. I certainly hope paying subscribers don't have to wait once the game is released. I'd hate to make my main character on a server and then constantly be blocked from even logging in to play.

I've gotten an estimated wait time before.  The reason for the wait, I think, is simply that the server is at a pre-determined max capacity and you're waiting for others to log out.  Max capacity, of course, being the entire point of an open stress test.

Right. I understand the max capacity and that it is because of the stress test. I just hope that the practice of using this queue doesn't carry over to Live, when players start paying to play. Blocking someone from logging on the to server is bad. In beta, no problem.

Well if a server reaches some absolute limit, its either a queue or "Server Full, try later!" message.  The best answer is to try to spread people out evenly and to have enough servers.  But of course, then you've entered the land of "OMFG!!! my guild....servers...can't..friends OMFG..h8 u bliz!!!"

The best part of SWG was the easy account cancellation process.

They mentioned this on the official boards... Apparently they made some changes/optimizations to the server code to deal with the 'item/loot lag', and wanted to test it.  So they put the realm caps a lot lower than before at first to get numbers at various levels of load, by slowly raising the cap over time.  The caps are back to normal now... At least, I've had no difficulty getting into my server(which had a 3 hour wait at one point) since then.

When did they raise them?  Last night I couldn't get into the infamous server 6 central PvP where all the big guilds are.  I was thinking that if this is the norm, then it may be tough during release to get into the more popular servers.

Witty banter not included.

I'd rather wait 30-40 minutes in line doing something else useful or entertaining and play with less lag than wait up to few minutes every time I try to smelt ore or loot an item. Still that as far as free beta goes, starting retail I expect no lineups and no lag. This isn't 97, lag of WoW magnitude will not be tolerated by most.

The devs have stated right now they are trying to push the server to very unstable and laggy states.

They said on avarage each server is holding 4 times more players than they where designed to. The fact that it even runs at that capacity is pretty amazing to me. I think its smart, lets overload our servers majorly *before* release. A ot of problems in other MMOG releases could ahve been avoided if they had done this.

They also said there wont be any of these problems come retail, inless a major chunck of the plays all pick the same few servers.

Maybe I shouldnt, but I have faith. Yeah yeah, hold your laughter until release. If it is this bad, then you can laugh at me.

Played about 5 hours today (no comment on this please),  almost no lag at all. (On Test 6, connecting from europe nonetheless) Quite a bit better than the lagfest during the last weekend.

Gives me hope (HA!) for release day ...

If you now would excuse me, I have to get my wishlist for Sante ready ...
