Does anyone have experience with live video streaming and hosting?
Specifically "some guy with a server" is trying to sell hosting to the local cable tv committee. Most of it seems to be nothing more than converting stuff to wmv and sticking it on a site (accessed by raw IP not a domain name--a mark of true professionalism). That part is easy.
The other half is they are also doing live streaming of the local channel which is the one thing I've got no clue about how to accomplish. Anyone know how that's usually done? I don't much care if I'm setting it up or I'm using a hosting service of some kind.
If you can read this, you're on a board populated by misogynist assholes.
We've been looking at mogulus for live streaming. The pro version is affordable as long as your target audience is of a limited size. For just streaming video files/non live stuff we have a hosted VPS so for example TexasAG Website is hosted on a server we have on our premises but the video on the home page is hosted on a VPS somewhere in CA. I think that home page gets like 650k hits a month and the video is changed out like 2x a week so it usually isn't cached.
Live streaming of the "live via satellite/town hall" sort is much more expensive.
