Updating the dictionary thread got me thinking again: is there anywhere on the web with a relatively concise timeline or narrative of EVE history? I know a lot of big alliances have come and gone, but I don't know when or under what circumstances. Oldtimers also refer to "great wars" and such but I don't know about them.
If there's a link can someone provide it? If not can someone tell the story?

That history of scamming page is full of shit and reads like a GHSC puff piece. The first really big scam in Eve was a ponzi scheme run by a dude called Morbor. His pyramid really took off when it was pimped on Eve-I (at the time one of the only and certainly most respected Eve fansites) then collapsed shortly after. I forget how much he made, but it was billions when 100mil was a big deal. Back then people were confused, outraged and expected their money back... simpler times.

Right, I haven't found much either, which is why I asked here. I did read the story about the guy who scammed everyone about an investment op in (battleship?) BPOs. Is that the Morbor guy you're talking about? Not to ruin it, but after he made off with their billions he gave it all to a newbie and quit I guess I'm just looking for a bulleted list to start off with. It doesn't have to be a fully researched and cross-referenced textbook (though that would be cool, if a little creepy).

Scamming must of been so much more fun in the early game when people weren't as aware of it.

Awesome read if someone can dig up the threads. I'd definitely buy a fully researched and cross-referenced textbook regarding the history of Eve. A better book to read on the shitter is hard to imagine. edit: Just came back to me, it was Nightfreeze you were thinking of. His scam story is here: http://www.wirm.net/nightfreeze/

The Goonswarm Wiki (for those with acccess) is pretty complete, though of course it's goon focused.
CCP missed something by not having old alliences, corps and empires leave stuff around for later generations to see. Titan's need to be graveyards of both the Titan that died AND the ships that died killing it. Old POS's floating around empty moons..

When she crossed over, she was just a ship. But when she came back... she was bullshit!

That's the problem, there are a lot of stories, but they're all seen from the viewpoint of the person telling them. I have a different perspective on the CODA war than most of the alliances that were in it, not only because we were on one side of it but because the opposition alliances joined it at different times and for different reasons, and would have a different story to tell, one that I wasn't privy to or interested in. And from before my time there were stories about the Coalition of Free Stars (which controlled most of 0.0 at one point early on) and its dissolution, but told to me from the viewpoint of one of the rebel factions. Even where there are focusing events, there's a lot of disagreement over what exactly happened. The story of the battle of F-T has at least a dozen versions, even though it all went down in the course of a few hours in less than a dozen systems. And events I participated in often had roots in events from halfway across the map, which in turn were consequences of things that happened completely across the map, and I probably didn't even know about most of the times that happened. The story of the settling of the Drone Regions alone could probably fill volumes, and I know virtually nothing about it because it was at the opposite side of the universe and all I paid attention to was the effects on the market. That's the beauty of Eve. 250,000 players, and at least twice that many different versions of "What really happened". --Dave

See, the thing is that I don't want details so much, just a timeline.
The Battle of F-T? Who was involved? What happened after? Clearly you think it has some significance but what was it? Are all those above questions in disupte?
