You realize I'm talking about a level 70 build with the new talent trees in the content patch, right?

Background downloading is about to be enabled for the patch:

Maybe it's coming sooner than I thought.

Dammit, I need to decide on a good level 70 raiding build for my warlock.  I NEED MORE TIME.

Actually no, I was for some reason thinking it was a new character you were going to hit 70 with from the faster xp change. Why I projected what I'm going to be doing myself on to you, I have no idea. Narcissism, probably.

I'll take that as a compliment!

If background downloading is on, how long before the patch is likely to hit in current estimates. From previous experience. If you take a guess.

I have to know. I'm counting on Inscription to make me a fortune - a fortune dammit! But I'm just not ready yet and am likely to be offline next week for an unforseeable amount of time.

My guess is that this is still a ways out.

I know that they're still making fundamental ability changes for shaman. Not that screwing shaman is unknown when dealing with Blizzard.

Still, I'd guess a couple of months yet.

I say about a week until PTR of the content patch then about a month to month and a half until the content patch is pushed live.

Early background downloading probably has something to do with whatever new art/zones they need to download.  Stormwind Harbor, for example, and the geographical changes to it.  That's gonna take a good bit of data to pull down and starting the downloads early makes that smoother.

Even if it hit the PTR today, it would still be a month of testing.

I will play DA and posit that it is, in fact, already live.

Most of the content and media is done, so it's easy enough for them to preload through the background downloader. What isn't done is the balancing, which is horribly, horribly unfinished at the moment. If you use TBC as a guide, the 2.0 patch came out about a month prior to the expansion. Best estimates put the expansion 2.5-3 months off at this point.

Worked for me.  Got my beta key and now have no desire to play WAR.
