MrBloodworth then clicked on the thread, saw a link, and decided to ask "What is it?" Immediately following such a question one might be bothered to type "THERE'S A LINK, CLICK IT, ASSHAT" particularly after one might recognize that MrBloodworth keeps a close watch - or as some would say, stalks - on every bad, good, or never going to be released MMOG on the market. And only after noticing that does one realize the only possible response is to write a block of fanfic so they can tag the actual response to the end, which ever so poetically turns out to be: "No one likes an asshole."

I think their FAQ needs to be more vague. Its not an MMO or an RTS but it kinda is! What?

I'm looking forward to LoL becoming popular. Perhaps they could name its sequel "Rise of Fierce Legends". They could have an expansion to that game: "Maleficent Arcanist's Offensive".

They have Guinsoo (one of the original DotA devs for many versions), as well as some tournament-level wc3/rts player on their dev team.
Should be interesting, I like the hero descriptions so far.

I never played DOTA but from what I understood it's just playing champion characters instead of having them combined with armies?
This game is the same?
Can't be arsed to read much more that the description but it sounds like Pokemon + Warcraft + Fury

Well, DotA is, at it's heart, based on the AoS-style of gameplay (base on Aeon of Strife, a Starcraft map), and is as such:
- You have two bases, on opposite ends. - Teams are between 2 to 5 people on each side. - NPC creatures are constantly coming out of each base in set 'waves', and clashing with each other in the middle of the map. - You control a single hero on the team. - The purpose of the game is to push back to the enemy base and destroy a central building.
From there, really, it differs per map, but the DotA style gameplay is that you split your time between helping your NPC allies push forward, and fighting enemy heroes. There are a series of towers that need to be destroyed up to the enemy base. Once these towers are destroyed, the main building in the enemy base can be attacked. So, lots of strategy in the game revolves around trying to sneak around while they are fighting NPC creatures to get money and experience, and jump them, or arrange large 'pushes' of creatures, where you will assist a wave of creeps until it builds up into a large enough force to do some damage against the enemy towers.
There are something like 90+ individual 'hero' units to choose from in DotA, each with 3 core abilities, and a 'super' ability, as well as a very involved system of items, that involves both purchasing items from the normal and 'secret' shop, and using recipes to combine items to create stronger items.
A game is something like 30-45 minutes long.
That's the core 'DotA' style of gameplay, and how it differs from a normal RTS.
